There are a lot of similarities in parts and packaging, (although Scaleauto appear to be have higher quality components and a little lower RRP !).
So to satisfy my curiosity, does anyone know how these 2 are related ?

Yes , it's quite obvious If you have ever owned a 1/24 scaleauto , the chassis say msc on them ... Your detective work was right!
