Can anyone help me on this during the 1970's Scalextric released the M23 C127 with the Johnson 111 motor in it, at a later date they released another M23 C2927 did this one also have the Johnson 111 in it or the later Mabuchie, if it had the mabuchie would it be possible to put a Johnson 111 in the C2927 i know it's a backward step but it's for a particular type of F1 racing. The car is high detail. I don't think there will be room for the Johnson without major chassis and/or body plastic surgery.

As StuBeeDoo says, these are high detail cars and they have been fitted with an FF Scalex motor. I do not think that you will be able to fit a Johnson in it.

Peter: If you're keen on an M23 and your competition rules allow non-Scalex cars, you could look at an Airfix or a Polistil/Policar.
The old Scalextric M23 was undersized, with a short wheelbase. I think the Airfix came with a Johnson 111 and was to a better scale.
The Poli M23 that I have has an S-can motor, but two others in the same series have the Johnson 111, so maybe some M23s had it too. Even if you found one with an S-can, it would be possible to modify it to take a 111.
The Poli model is a little over-scale, but still within Scalextric variations, and you'd have a reasonable wheelbase and track. It has a lot of ugly "chrome" plating at the back, but it could be made to look quite good.
This range of Policars was also marketed in North America as Strombecker, and over the years some found their way to other countries, so if you see a "Strombecker McLaren M23" it would be one of these.

What are you actually trying to do? I have two C127s and would happily part with one (or both), but C127s must be common in your part of the world, and presumably you're aiming for something better.

Exactly the same idea sprang to my mind.

I've managed to squeeze a Johnson into the Ferrari 312T2 but having looked at an M23 to do a similar project I think its a none starter I'm afraid.

The can is a tad too wide for the cockpit/engine cover.

You might consider a French M23 if you can get one or an Airfix MRRC M23.

Thanks for your feed back, bye, bye M23 will have to try something else that came with a Johnson 111 for 70's F1 , i do like your pictures Ian H very nice indeed the Airfix M.R.R.C car looks interesting, there is a swapmeet at Stanstead in Oct will have to look there for something to do a project on. Here's the Polistil M23, centre, larger than the old Scalextric C127 on the right but fairly close to the slightly later Scalex C137 Ligier on the left.
My Polistil M23 has an S-can motor but there's probably room for a Johnson 111, with a new chassis or mounts.
The motor in the other two Polistils I have from that series isn't a Johnson 111 after all. It's about the same size but is can-end drive, is slightly shorter, and has a differently shaped endbell.
The Ligier has the Johnson 111 motor. The C137 began with the Johnson, of course, then had the S-can with adaptors but the mounts remained the same, so Johnsons can be fitted to those, if you like a short-wheelbase car.
