Does anyone recall a UK advert (circa 1977) for Scalextric featuring a race between a white Porsche 917K and a red Ferrari P3/P4. My late Father made the commercial and I really want to get a copy of it. If anyone has any suggestions as to any on-line libraries then it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

That's about 10 years later. I would ask Scalextric themselves, you never know...

Nice video Ade!

Hope Ade's post is of help ;o)

What can I say, I am very patient
Will give Scalextric a try. Ade thanks for the link but the advert I am after is about 15 years older and features a white 917k racing along at eye level with a Ferrari P3/P4. Cheers everyone.

Hi Dan,
10/10 for patience.

I would like to see the ad you refer to, too! I can't recall an ad with a white Porsche 917K and a Ferrari P3/P4

For all TV ads we (Hornby) have made they are the property of the film maker. We do not get a copy of the media. The TV and film maker liaise directly and we pay for the service. I think this is how it is done in the Ad world generally.

This explains why you don't see old TV ads on our web pages/facebook, etc. except where in recent years we have been able to acquire mpeg format (etc) files.

Sorry I can't be of any further use but please get back to me if you find the Ad.

Thanks for your reply Adrian. When my father died my mother donated all his back catalog of commercials (some 30 years or so) to the History Of Advertising Trust. They were still cataloging all his ads last time I inquired so may try again. The reason I remember the Scalextric advert so well is that I got to keep the Porsche & the Ferrari
Cheers.

There's a guy on ebay USA who makes compilation tapes of old toy ads, including a fair amount of slot material - would somebody in the UK be doing anything similar?

Not sure where he gets his material, maybe just from taping old reruns,... no, that doesn't make much sense.... TV stations may have some archive material - for instance, he managed to find film of the old Aurora national championships from about 1963-67.

I'm quite keen to see this advert now, too!

Do you still have the cars, Dan? I'm wondering if the two cars were C16 & C22 or the Spanish designed versions C41 & C46.

Ive been casually searching the interweb for an old courage beer ad from the early 70's , so far without success , that included my grandfather (even though he didnt drink). If anyone finds a more obscure source than I have , I would be keen to know. Good luck with the hunt for this one.

They were the UK cars and unfortunately after my father died my mother held a garage sale, mainly to clear out all the outbuildings, and all the Scalextrix and Cox Slot Cars from early 1960's were sold (along with the TCR set!). Amazing how things seem the right thing to do at the time and later you regret them.

What an interesting topic-your dad must have been a fascinating bloke. Shame you no longer have the cars- if I had a penny for every slot car I have got rid of and really shouldn't have...I hope you can locate this ad-I'd love to see it!

Leo

No I would have been safely tucked away at school for that one. There is a "Tea - Best Drink Of The Day" advert on there titled "Under 12's" which has my hand in it though
. I am still waiting for my five minutes of fame! Cheers.
