Assuming that the scaley tyres are both made from the same compound, then the theory according to cocker would be that dry tyres give more grip due to that fact that there is more rubber on the track (less tread patterns and grooves). However, as Meco said, real proof is needed
when my track is not spotlessly clean and dust free, grooved tyres SEAM to perform better, the slicks seam to get mucky and slippy quicker. This hasn't been at all scientifically tested, but thats my feeling
