Has anyone any inside information on when the Senna Scalextric McLaren (1991) will be released? I understand that there are some licensing issues but how close are we to a release for this car?

(Scalextric and Mclaren having issues over an F1 release….sounds familiar.

I must have missed something, care to elabourate? What's the history behind this?

Hi,

I was making reference to the licensing issues that caused the withdrawal of the Scalextric version of the MP4-4 back in the 1990's. SCX released their version but Scalextric had to cancel their issue of this car.

But the MP4-12C supercar has been released recently, as has the 2010 MP4-25 Formula 1 car.

Is it because of the Marlboro livery? It might sound a strange reason, but Ron Dennis (who is head of Mclaren for those whoe don't know) had all the old Mclarens from the 70s,80s, and 90s in the Mclaren Factory private display collection repainted with a non tobacco livery. Maybe they are just avoiding the hassle and avoiding complaints if a toy Marlboro Mclaren was released?

Another reason could be that Senna's death aniversary was recent (1st May), they might wait a bit out of respect, so it doesn't look like anyone is cashing in on his legacy.

Or maybe they are waiting for the Senna movie to go on general release so that they can cash in on the interest that raises.

Looks like the licensing issues have been addressed as the car is arriving in the US on Tuesday.
