MGB 1964 Monte Carlo Rally

BMC Works car, No. 83, Reg. 7 DBL

Reference: C3143
Type: Single car, crystal box
Class: Classic
Availability: May 2011

For many, the MGB is a long awaited addition to the Scalextric range. Not before produced by Scalextric, this famous, iconic and most British of all sports cars is proudly introduced to the classic range in the livery of the famous 1964 Monte Carlo winner of the GT class. The detailed car includes wire wheels with knock-off spinners, working lights at the front and rear as well as magnatraction and Scalextric Digital compatibility with DPR.

History: 1964 Monte Carlo Winner and Britain's best-selling sports car of the time. 7 DBL is an immortal number plate to MGB aficionados because it was driven to victory in the GT Category for sports cars and 17th overall, on the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally by Suffolk based farmers, twins Donald and Erle Morley. They started the event from Oslo and the final result was remarkable for an 1800cc car, producing approximately 125bhp. Previously, when fitted with a streamlined nose and aluminium panels, 7 DBL had won its class in the 1963 Le Mans, driven by Paddy Hopkirk and Alan Hutcheson. '7 DBL' had been used extensively in endurance and rally events worldwide with sister works cars '6 DBL' and '8 DBL'.

Features: High detail. Magnatraction. Quick-change guide braid. Working lights front and rear, Magnatraction. DPR.

I love the detail on the headlights, but it still misses the bubbles around the wheelarches...

All we need is a motor that won't start on a winters day and it is perfect!

Looks an excellent addition to the range. And congratulations on the 'softer' motor to go with the narrow wheel-base.

Let's hope that the motor is available as a stand-alone item so that non-magnet racers can pop it into some of their others cars.

Well said!

Is it REALLY coming out in May? Wow, when I saw it on the 2011 release list, I figured we'd be lucky to have it next winter!!

The 15k is much better than the earlier 18-20k motors.

I have the 'Austin Seven' Mini and she's handling fine non-mag with the 15k motor... and 12g of lead shoehorned inside! All I need now is a 45ohm controller and I'll be right on top of her vicarious ways!!

More room for lead inside the 'B'. Possibly.

This model is a showstopper and every bit as beautiful as the Gold Leaf 49er ............ congratulations Scalextric on what appears to be a fabulous example of your craftmanship.

I would love several of these ............ Oh, and an MGA wouldn't go amiss either

QUOTE (Saviour @ 27 Apr 2011, 12:04) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>15K, that's it??? OK, so in real terms, she was not that fast, so 15K sounds about right. looks a good car. BUT, it's Hornby????
Pioneer, cannot wait for theirs.

Remember this is Scalextric, so the motor says 15K but will be 18 or more.
I heard the Scale Auto ones burn out after a short time though.

But back on track, I can't wait to get my hands on one and then compare it with the Pioneer car when that's out.
Will anyone be doing the other popuar works cars? BRX and DRX so I can complete a set of MGs of the era.

Nice looking model. Something not quite right though, the tail seems a bit too tall. Look at all that real estate between the bottom of the taillight and the rear bumper.

Graham, not being able to go around corners is a strange way to win GT class at Monte Carlo

Thanks Tyneside for the tip. Much appreciated.

I have found though that the Scaleauto 'white' motors just don't have quite enough grunt. Though they aren't be too bad with low ratio gearing or some cars.

Something around the speed and torque of the old Ninco NC1 or the BWA NC1/FF gets the balance just right for weighted racing.

Unfortunately, the NC1 is out of production as are Al Penrose's excellent motors NC1 and FF style motors.

The Ninco N1 cars have a motor that is about the right pace but it isn't available as a stand-alone and won't pop straight into Scaley motor mounts.

So, as far as motors go, there's presently quite a gap in the market between 10 000 and 18 000 revs.

Try the "HIGH SPEED MOTOR" from Radio Shack. They are 9 volts and run at 24000 RPM. They are the size of the small motors that ABSLOTS sells but with a bit more grunt. They should fit with very little work and leave room for weight if you are runnin non magnet. They cost $3.95 USD here. I have used several. If you are to mount them with screws note that the hole lineup is not the same as the FF motors.
