Oh, it would be churlish of me to post after this initial feedback... but I can't resist.

QUOTE These are a totally different animal and the performance appears to be superb relative to earlier observations and comment made.

QUOTE It is evident that these bikes run well and provide instant racing straight out of the box...

Okay, so the 7th Cavalry may ride in to Mope's defence again, so further reports may put the lie to the initial impressions posted above and egg may be on my face but I care not: right now I'm just having such a damn good laugh!

lotus03 you can burn it for £15?

Maybe I'm not the bright but how do you go about making quotes when you reply, not like above!

Dome, when you type in your post, just above the text input box is a list of buttons. Copy the text you want to quote then click the QUOTE button, paste the text, click Okay and you're done.

When you see what the application does, dropping in XML like opening and closing tags, you can then actually just type the quote tags yourself.

My recommendation for anybody who has Ninco track and wishes to run the MotoGP bikes as designed would be to purchase a MotoGp set with SPORT track in when they arrive. Keep your bike Mr Dome until you do that.

Used Ninco track is generally not flat on the corners and the rails are not flush with the surface (Mr Dome may well be suffering from sagging wavey Ninco track on the corners which is kicking the bike out of the slot as it corners as the stabalizer hits the crest of a wave). The stabaliser ergonomics are for SPORT track which has flush rails and is flat on the corners.

If your track is undulating on the corners as Ninco track may well be then there are going to be the issues that Mr Dome describes.

And before I get spammed Ninco users should just check out their track occasionally. I have yet to find an older Ninco track that does not have sagging and wavey corner track surfaces which leads to uneven running if you have magnets and bouncing if you don't.

QUOTE and why don't you make a car that handles without a magnet first, (not sidewinder) say inline motor then stick a magnet in it.

The comment could be aimed at any large scale slot car manufacturer and broadly speaking in the market for which their product is geared towards they don't need to.

SPORT Pit Lane spares will be available very shortly for all you Scalextric tuners and club racers out there who wish to spend a bit more on your chassis.

For those who don't then we can look forward to continuing competitive prices as a result of the mass production methods.

And Scalextric cars have improved in that direction anyway in the last 2-3 years for very little increase in price so the comment is a bit unfair.

Just out of interest do Fly Racers run without any work?

QUOTE excite the orientals

I looked in the dictionary, and technicaly I think that usage is ok. But it's not PC.
Asian is prefered to describe people, oriental culture.

Anyhow, why don't they make a Norton or a Triumph? Maybe Fly or Ninco will beat them to it, with a classic series. Or slot it with a Bugatti, or Carrera with a BMW, ridden by a buxum Frulein..Or Revell with a Harley.

It could indeed and, broadly speaking and although you may be correct, it would be a bit of a smack in the chops for the enthusiasts if a manufacturer or his representative were to actually put that in print!

Actually, come to think of it, we've seen it happen - AND the prickly reaction.

In fact, I believe the manufacturers care more than that comment appears to suggest and, as you say later, improvements HAVE most definitely appeared and, hopefully, will continue to appear.

I'd like to think that much of the stimulus for the improvements has come directly from forums such as ours. So the original quote is quite legitimate - there is always room for better designed and better built cars.

.......having calmed down on the initial disappointment of the handling of my very impressive Model of a Moto GP bike ( and glued a magnet just behind the guide, scaley small round one) I will not be burning it in the garden as this would be a bit stupid and a waste of my hard earned cash. The small magnet is a quick fix and works well on my 'flat' and not pinned down Ninco track.

I'm not a great lover of magnets, but they have a place in life, like on a fridge or in a more useful place a motor.

As I said in my last post Scalextric could benefit from producing a car without a magnet that handles, maybe it would not be a good idea for the mass market but good for sad people like me! Magnets are fine if you want to do lap after lap after lap of the same lap as before and for a change see if you can get the car out of the front door when it lets go! they do Fly or is that another manufacture.

My opinion only and yes I do enjoy racing with magnet cars they have a place but most clubs I have raced at take the magnets out and try to make the cars handle without them.

........think I'm losing what I thought I was saying?? or my mind has switched off.

Sticking a magnet in a car to hide it's total lack of handling is not a good idea in my opinion.

just bought a Fly Race Lola.........ooooooooo like that goes well even in the box!

The simple and sad facts of the matter are that if a full size motobike were unleanable, it would corner like a drunken sailor. Even a pushbike pedalled by an overweight octogenarian nun MUST lean in order to travel in anything but a straight line!

It follows that a small, unleanable model, no matter how exquisite in apearance, cannot handle one whit better than our drunken sailor or corpulent nun, except by addition of a magnet and outriggers to nullify the effect of a very high centre of gravity. And then it looks plain daft going round a bend in an attitude that bears absolutely no resemblance to what we have all seen in real life. The moment you see it doing what your entire lifetime's experience tells you is quite ridiculous, the necessary 'suspension of disbelief' is rendered completely impossible. The lack of lean is no trivial, pernickety detail, it is the absolute destruction of the slightest possibility of acceptance by slot RACERS as something to be raced on a slot track.

So, tremendous and very sincere admiration for Scalextric in producing truly gorgeous models of these immensely attractive machines. But simple, plain, common sense says they will never catch on as desirable slot racing machinery. They are unerringly destined and doomed to a life of shelf queenery, apart perhaps from the occasional demonstration to show that they are actually capable of propelling themselves - if only in a somewhat perverse and unnatural manner. All the upbeat talk that can be brought to bear, and I'm sure there will be plenty of that, can't alter the simple fact that they look plain DAFT going round a curve and any increase in cornering speed endowed byadditional magnet or weight only serves to make them look yet dafter in motion.

On the black board in my sons classroom is an enlarged photo of the first Scalextric motobike.

Four young 8 year old boys whom do test their teachers patience, have been behaving all week, magically was the word I got, because if, and only if, they continue to behave, they will be able to come to this most famous of local slot car tracks and have their photographs taken for the newspaper using the new motor bikes.

I think it was Walt Disney who said,

"I'll take my chances with the masses. Critics can please themselves."

Argh!

I'm politically correct only to a point and that point moves with the breeze.

I watched three of these mopeds with stabilizers on Ebay last night. Each received plenty of views (circa 40-50) and each received a single bid and were therefore sold at the start price of £23.99.

Perhaps it is early days, perhaps folks don't know about 'em yet or perhaps there's going to be a storage facility somewhere near Margate shortly moving some Goodwood GT-40 sets around to make space for some MotoGP stock!

How many club racers will have the strength of character to turn up on a race night with one of these and suffer the slings and arrows of their compatriots, pointing out that they don't lean and therefore look odd pootling around corners?

Its getting a tad pointless now to harp on about the fact that they do not lean.

The same song has been sung since January and here we are at the end of May still singing that song.

On a large club circuit when the bikes are some distance from you and you are focusing on racing against competitors you simply are not going to care. The same could well be said on a smaller home circuit.

I'll be honest and say that I am waiting to try these when the set is released that I wish to purchase, and with the Scalextric banked track. I have every confidence that on the home SPORT track and with a circuit designed to accomodate the style of racing that these MotoGp bikes are suited to that we are going to have lots of fun and that is what it is all about at the end of the day.

The youngsters around me do seem rather keen to race motorbikes so clearly there is going to be interest from the younger generation who are not out and out club racer tune it demons but simply want to have fun.

And with Tropi sandwiched in the middle I am going to add that these are the ultimate and ideal machine for club racing and for a race series.

Why do you all ask?

Well, for starters we have 16 liveries on machines that basically all have the same or similar chassis suggesting near identicle performance and a close competitve match.

And secondly these are true drivers machines. Only the very best driver will win as it could be argued that it is pointless attempting to make these go much faster. Is anybody going to argue with that?

That is possibly why some club racers are scared of these. They present too much of a driver challenge!

So only top drivers need apply.

So if you are a club racer and you have purchased one of these already you have joined the elite "Top Drivers Club"!

That must be it! For a slightly different take check out the discussion on HRW, in particular Rob Wessling's post regarding *************.

You can always rely on Rob Wessling for a laugh, or most any Oz for that matter, if there's a Brit on the other end of the joke!
Actually camels DO lean and not just sideways either. Also notorious for bad temper, biting, spitting, belching, fearsome flatulence and obnoxious bad breath. Not to mention a touch of humping if they can ever find the time to fit it in between all their other entertaining acivities. I imagine that all these things could be emulated by the addtion of digital control especially the superior Margate model!

And how about some monocycle slot racing too?
On Mopterminilogy that should be even more entertaining than the bikes!

I read somewhere very recently, that the bike chassis are actually NOT all identical.
Oops, that's the 'ultimate and ideal' theory slightly holed.

2 of my Bikes arrived last night.

Unboxed put on the track (Ninco) for a quick go (actually Scott had a go).

First impression was that they would do OK in our existing Bike/Side car class!

Bit slow and wobbly, but they do fit under the bridge!

Didn't give it any serious track time.

However they did look stunning! and will be fun to collect.

The two bodies were very different, but will check the chassis to see if they are different.
