Shouldn't be long to wait, now. Hornby dealers normally get their next years order forms through in December. No pictures, just written listings in time for them to place their orders at the toyfair at the end of January.

Perhaps Pendleslot will give us the nod!

QUOTE Just a personal thought : the Bentley Le Mans winner would be a great partner to the Lister LMP

Humm! I already think about it! But I rather prefer a 2003 Bentley from Slot.It

It is worthwhile having a closer look at that Lister story.

These are the basics of the new SPORT chassis as I understand them from an interpretation:-

1) This chassis will only be available in SPORT versions.

2) All future SPORT cars will have this new racing chassis to distinguish the SPORT versions from the standard cars.

3) The motor is the same as current SPORT cars.

4) Cables will be silicon.

5) The subframe is fixed with a single screw.

6) The subframe is fitted to a rubber block so that it is springy relative to the body.

7) The extent of this movement can be adjusted.

8 There will be a whole new range of pinions and crowns to provide a total of 21 different gear ratios and they will be in different colors for ease of changing.

9) These will screw fit.

10) A range of special magnets will be made available just for the SPORT version. There will no longer be a button magnet.

11) A range of axles, wheels and bushes will be available.

12) Tools will be available to help with the changing of these parts.

13) Parts that are considered to be breakable and fragile on the body will in future be made of rubber.

14) The motor is offset in the car to make the driver detailing easier and to reduce any compromise with the look of this particular car.

15) Parts will be available seperately from the RTR car as sold. It will be entirely up to the racer how he wants to set the car up for a race.

16) Existing models will not be updated to have the new modified chassis but it is envisaged that the new performance parts will be able to be retrofited.

17) This car will have Xenon lights.

18 The screws that hold the body to the chassis have been designed to permit you to provide adjustable body movement realtive to the chassis.

I have one word to say.

WOW!

Cheers

QUOTE 3) The motor is the same as current SPORT cars.
It is generally considered that the motor in the current Sport cars is identical to the motor in the non-Sport cars. ie all Scalextric motors are the same within production tolerances, no matter what.

But it has been hinted that an alternative motor may become available for the next range of cars. Personally, I don't think it is needed, but there will be disagreement here, no doubt of that!

So what you are saying is that a 'protec' system for 2004 is on the way and might be more of a hit than the initial 'Protec' cars?

I hope so!
Looking forward to that Lister...

QUOTE 4) Cables will be silicon.
One of the most common mistakes on the planet:

silicon (sîl´î-ken, -kòn´) noun Symbol Si
A nonmetallic element, second only to oxygen as the most commonly occurring element in the earth's crust. Occurring extensively in silica and silicates, having both an amorphous and a crystalline allotrope, and used doped or in combination with other materials in glass, semiconducting devices, concrete, brick, refractories, pottery, and silicones. Atomic number 14; atomic weight 28.086; melting point 1,410°C; boiling point 2,355°C; specific gravity 2.33; valence 4.

Taking all above into account, plus the fact that is extremely brittle, silicon is undoubtedly among the very worst candidates as an electrical cable or wire in a slot car (or anything else)!

Just to put Moped's apparent 'revelations' into proper context and perspective, this whole subject area, complete with information link sources was initiated here by Fast Lucky a couple of weeks ago. Let's give credit where it is due.

Well worth revisiting

I imagine that what was meant was "silicone", used as the jacket material on the wire. Such coated wire usually has finer copper strands but more of them. Makes for very flexible leads that are less prone to breakage of internal strands. Sometimes called "elephant wire" over here.

Oh dear!

As per Mecoprop's note, please refer to the original mail.

I was at the NSCC/Hornby weekend where this car was shown for the first time, as were a number of other Forum members. I listened and noted most of the items discussed as we looked at the CAD drawings and listened to the designer.

I can't be bothered to go through each item in turn, but from Mopeds list I would suggest that the following points are either not correct, never mentioned or plain speculation.

1,2,3,5,6,7,10,11,12,13,17 and 18.

Point 17???? Xenon lights???? unless I'm very much mistaken SCX use Xenon in their cars not Hornby.

I would suggest people check their facts before posting, and when they are not sure say so!!!

I would imagine you are dead right Fergy!

It would seem that facts and imagination are apt to confuse certain modes of transport.

at Mecoprop

I love the mean look of this car, and I like the fact that scaley will offer new better gears and stuff, but I have one major concern about this design by scalex. I have to question this offset motor. Yes I understand that it will make the bodylines inatct at the back. That's all nice but woun't it make the car handle worse (differently in left- versus right-hand corners)? I read somewhear else that they claimed it doesn't effect performance. Was that using those magnuts (that hide any design faults), may I ask? Cause without mags it must have some bad influence on the performance, or
?
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Well I put the Dutch text through a translator and those are the main points within the text.

Maybe somebody else should do the same to verify?

Do you all honestly think I could dream up the point that the subframe was fixed to a rubber block to make it springy? I don't think so somehow!

Curiously the site went down within 1 hour of posting this information. I wonder if it will ever reapear with this story? Hmmm.....

I have just read that link to Fast Lucky's story of two weeks ago and have noted mtuck666's translation which is slightly different to the one I came up with but never the less verifies all the points listed by myself above.

One extra point that I was not sure about and therefore did not list that tuck's translation confirms:-

19) The rear wheels are to be of alloy not plastic and are to be perfectly centered!

And another point that I got wrong:-

20) Three different motor types will be available which will each fit in their own cradle!

Very, very interesting!

Very well done Scalextric. I cannot think of one thing that you have not covered that every enthusiast here has requested either on this board or at SCI over the last 1-2 years!

Actually, Mope NOTHING is verified unless 'verify' has radically changed its definition recently.

It is perfectly possible that some or none of this will ever see the light of day and, until it does, it remains purely speculative. When/IF Scalextric themselves make official statements would be a more appropriate time to use that word. We all love a bit of gossip but please let's be very careful how we present it in order not to mislead readers.

Sorry to be a merchant of doom, but I wonder just how many casual slot car buyers will go for a car that has never raced, isn't famous and looks odd? Even non-race fans know what a MG is or a Cadillac, but a Lister Storm LMP?

Could be a real test of the market and just how many cars get bought whatever they are.

Of course, I should add, I do not care about "growing the hobby" since that is what the markers are paid to do, so please don't go on about that. I merely find the choice of cars to be modelled baffling sometimes. Four makers do the Subaru rally car, but nobody does the Skoda? The Reynard LMP 675? Two Lamborghini Murcialago-ma-bobs?

I think you should put that question to Fly enthusiasts? They seem to purchase all sorts of odd cars.

And what of the Judd Dome? Another "weirdy".

I suppose in the case of this Scalextric car it could be justified as Scalextric may well be able to get the best performance out of a car with this shape and these parts. It will sell on speed alone if nothing else.

They may well be able to advertise it as "the fastest Scalextric car ever".

Now just because the UK Goverment have banned 1:1 car advertising which encourages you to buy a car because it is fast, does not mean that same ban applies to slot cars....

......yet!

erm, well if it's the fastest scalex car, wont that render challenger useless?

also, why do I find all that gossip to sound like well.. nuthn

and hasnt the different coloured gears been done before? oh yes slot it do them.. sonow we will get confused with the colours and teeth!

and eac motor needs its own "cradle" one thats gonna be expensive and two I'd just
at anyone who buys everything for it..

and the off centre motor MUST affect handling!

Rob.

p.s dont care bout the ads.. older cars always seem to be faster! well for 23 grand in 1995 you could buy a 225bhp escort cossie today you can buy an RS for 20 grand that has 212bhp.. now which has the badge thats most appetising?
