Hello!

I thought I had seen this posted but couldn't remember. So, what's your verdict on this Fly Bashers? Scalextric not able to cope? oh dear.

If you hadn't already heard, the delays (which also includes many of Hornbys model railway releases) was due to the illness and then untimely death of one of their senior design people.

(Sorry to bring a sober note to this thread.)

Now Max, when it comes to FLY v Scalex GT40, come on, are you telling me you haven't tried a non-racing FLY Lola 98 yet? Where have you been?

Venturi, Viper, Panoz, Corvette, Lola T70 and GT40 all absolutely caned the Scalextric GT40 out of thr box. The Scalextric car is underpowered, out of scale and a waste of time when you look at Fly's excellent execution of the model.

I have a Classic track, and my mate has sport and on both tracks the scalex GT40 is quick, but if you can handle it the Fly one is quicker. Once your in the groove with the scaley one its fine, sticks like sh*t to a blanket, but over do it and she will flip over straight outta the track! (anyone found my front bonnet, rear window etc).

However on the same tracks the Fly ones will at least give you a bit of tailslide before they let go and of course once you can control this, will ultimately give you quicker lap times(i.e. you wont end up on your roof!)


Sorry to hear about the Hornby guy.

Dave Stone joined Hornby in 1960 as a young man sporting a teddy boy haircut. He was one of the many key personal at Hornby who live largely in obscurity but who are responsible for the excellent models that we enjoy today. The loss of his knowledge and skills are considerable and this has delayed the production of new models as noted by GT40. Model making was a labour of love for Dave and he is sadly missed by his colleagues at Hornby.

On the other point raised by Max the comparison has to be made with "out of the box" cars. Once a car has been "prepared" it is no longer "out of the box" IMHO.

The Fly Lola is very popular among club racers as being THE car to own that is not a lightweight Sport/Racing model. Given that it has what is considered to be a more powerful motor and a longer wheelbase and wider track it is only to be expected that it will run faster than the Scaley GT40 so the comparison is a little bit suspect.

I wonder how the Fly Lola would do versus the GT40 with a standard Scaley type motor instead?


And it would be very interesting indeed to run a Scaley MG Lola against a Fly Lola with identical motors and magnets in place!

Reckon that`s right. truth is most Scaley Lolas doing the turns at ours have been modded up to 28,000 rev motors. I`m taking nothing away from the Scaley Lola it`s a cracking magnet car.

Astro you just posted a very important point. We all go faster when we know the track better
