There are chess clubs, draught leagues, bridge nights.
When you are all racing do you chat to each other or focus on the race?
A lot depends on the size of the club. If the club is not large enough for there to be no spare capacity in between racing and marshalling, quit honestly you have not got much time for chat except at the end or briefly in between heats. Thats my experiance.
Similarly, chess, draught and bridge players do not chat when they are playing. They focus on the matter at hand. They might talk at the end when the night is over, but otherwise that will probably be watching as they will be interested in the strategy and skills of others.
Yahoo games is very similar. You can watch and not actively participate.
It is that mental diversion that is relaxing. In my job I spend much of my day meeting or talking to people. It is actually nice to get away from folk and do something completely different that involves using different skills or a different part of the brain, and that does not actually involve "chatting to people" live.
For those that work 100% of the day with computers then I feel sorry for you because you are missing out on human interaction and I can see where you are coming from with your needs. My work experiance though is the opposite.
I want 100% race action, not cosy gossip and chat for 20 minutes in between races.
This development will provide that oppertunity.
