Also, compound...

You can upload download stuff to the sportworld pod at ur pc, carry the pod to the track, race without the pc, take the pod back to pc, and upload from pod.

They made a big point of this at the show, but I forgot to ask what you could and couldn't do with this feature (obviously u cant internet race like this)

It's a real shame that the first release of this isn't going to be compatible with Digital. People are goign to have to choose one or the other. Obviously, Scalextric like to keep their various R&D teams as far apart as possible and probaly block email's between the teams as well.

Scalextric stated clearly at ExCel that there were currently no plans to incorporate Digital with World Sport.
Both systems are completely different and not aimed at running together.

And I am not and that is good enough for me!
It's obviously a personal thing and some people may think they will love it and will, while others may think they will love it and won't. Others like me will be certain it has no appeal and not change their minds while others might be seduced into it at a later date and might STILL change their minds.
Reminds me of the arguments about marriage!
(but a bit cheaper)

QUOTE (jonny s @ 10 Feb 2004, 11:45 PM)Nuro, did you pick up on my post about computer spec? Adrian said P4 but Mike reckoned could get away with P3 450 MHz.
Remember that the graphics are developed in Shockwave 3D which has a very low demand on the system.

We're not talking photo realistic here at all.

The biggest performance factor for this application is the video card that is in your machine. Some of the latest 3D cards may require a more recent PC.

I know that but I still think it's a shame that the systems are mutually exclusive. It would have been more sensible to develop them to be compatible, just basic marketing sense.

I`m sure that the Margate guys are working hard to sort that out, I say this because that`the impression Adrian and the team left me with.

As for wether you will buy it because so and so is or isn`t , well that has to be very much tongue in cheek. Good grief, look at us? Something comes out to improve the pleasure of slot racing and without even trying it or getting any hands on you have already decided not to? You may not want to race on the internet, although even between SF members that would be good and bring us together, but the racing elements it will add are promoting the positive aspects of real motor racing and increasing the fun of the hobby surely?

I can`t get into the negative aspects of some of the postings, ref. cars not to scale, digital taking over the world,World Sport not being of use. What a spoilt lot we are! It`s all about having more choice, more options. It doesn`t take anything away but can only add to a great hobby. It`s depressing me to the point that I need to go and play with my toy cars now!

As a relative newbie to this forum I have to say the comment here doesn't seem to be more or less negative than any other non-slotcar forum's I belong to. Seems to be a lot of passionate and generally well reasoned debate on both sides of any arguments I've read so far. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to send somebody a link to here.

SportWorld is an entirely different system to Sport Digital.

The two systems have been developed separately because they address different issues.

They share the race management software though.

Both systems employ new technology that has been recently developed. It was important for the company to bring out Digital this year for obvious reasons. If you combined the two technologies, the whole thing might have taken a number of years to bring to market.

The two systems also appeal to different people as we have seen by public reaction here on the forum. Bringing out one big product might not have been so well received by the users.

By doing it this way, the developers can refine the products after a time in the marketplace and after feedback from the users. In this way they can develop a better product. If there is a demand, I'm sure that they'll think of combining the two at some future time.
