That's a great set up they have there.
I've no direct hands on experience of the Scalextric 1/24 track but it seems to enjoy an excellent reputation and command good prices, if you can ever find any.

You obviously either don't have or haven't read Roger Gilhams's Book, Swiss!
It's all in there.

"Scalextric Cars & Equipment Past & Present" 5th Edition.
This latest edition has been completely revised with new chapters, photographs and comprehensive listings of Scalextric from Tinplate to present day, 1/24th & 1/32nd scales, English, Spanish, French & Mexican produced cars. With new features on STS & TT cars plus much, much more.

Allegedly a revision of this book is due 'soon' so, if you don't already have it, it may be a good idea to hang fire for a little while and be right up to date.

One great reference site for all things Scalextric is Slot Car Portal . Its maintained by Adrian Norman and it contains an absolute wealth of information and pictures.

So, to answer Swiss' question QUOTE What the hell is Scalextric 1/24 scale track ????? we go to here to see the range of track and figures.
But the cars are more interesting because they featured working mechanical brakes. The cars are listed under the general "Cars" section rather than "1/24" and their part numbers start with "24C" rather than "C", for example the absolutely stunning 24C-501 Ferrari 158, Lotus

Regarding Past + Present, there is a new edition being worked on by Roger Gillham. However, no publication date has been set and it is not due for some time, so don't let this put you off from buying it.

It is an excellent book and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in Scalextric.

Regarding Super 124, it was quite a limited range and only lasted 3 years. Only 6 different cars were made and a similar number of track sections. The track still sells for good money, and some of the cars go for up to £1,000 (or more).

Rich - i seem to remember that the brakes worked by using a weight that slid forward under deceleration as you let the power off

this then had some pads that rubbed on the wheels - a bit crude

not sure how well it worked

The braking mechanism wasn´t very powerfull but it was innovative in the 60´s. Scalextric even patented it

Not to butt in...but just this weekend I was priveledged to visit a great vintage Scaley 3 laner...

He has basically the complete collection from the Lionel 1962 catalog as well...what a place

This may be the mother of all thread resurrections, but I have recently acquired a modest amount of this 1/24 scale 3 lane track and am looking to add a few sections. Would love to hear from anyone who has any amount to sell and would be willing to ship to the U.S.
