Was about to buy the Digital platinum set and the Triple cup (for the pit lane and extra track) to make a big set but then found some guy selling his (about 80 feet of track) analog Scalextric set in the area. It is a very nice setup and includes the hobby table and scenery plus loads of accessories. But it's not digital.

So, can someone here tell me (I'm new) what I'd need to convert his analog to digital? (It's sport not classic I believe).

I looked online and all they offer is the 4 car powerbase with the digital conversion pack but I want the 6 car base.

Here's what I want in the end, please let me know what I need to do, thanks!

6 car powerbase
a few lane change sections
pit lane game (modded for refueling features)
some pit lane track
some digital cars (or chips to convert)

My dilema is that even though his set is a great deal, I'd need digital cars (chip his cars) and then i need to buy a 6 car powerbase and then i also need the pit lane thing and pit lane track plus modding the pit lane thing for fuel management (can't do this with the 6 car base alone right?) ....plus lane changes.

It would be nice if the company made a 6 car base conversion set but theirs is only the 4 car base. So even if I buy the "Pit lane set" I STILL need the 6 car base... arrrgh..

Please advise on best thing to do cost-wise and also if I am missing anything or if there is a turn key product I can get that converts everything he has to digital wtih 6 cars and pit lane...

Thanks

Hi & welcome.

Firstly, where in the world are you?

Later this week I will have a pit lane game, some lane changers, old 6 car powerbases (C7030) and loads of track and borders (plus maybe some digital cars) for sale.

I will list it all here in the next few days.

I'm in Chicago. I definitely want the new 6 car powerbase though (7042 or whatever).

From your reply I'm thinking to buy the local analog set and just add the pieces needed to get it up to digital but still not sure of best plan.

Thanks!

Hi Sadinoel

Personally I would stick to your original plan, by the time you've got all your digital stuff you may as well have purchased the platinum set.

The 6 car powerbase when bought separately doesn't come with a transformer/s (you'll need 2 for 6 cars). That's almost half the price of the platinum set!

Thanks guys. When I start going through the math it's adding up fast. Plus I'd need to chip the cars but with the platinum i get 6 chipped cars. I'm just going to get the plat set and pit lane game and go from there.

I'll need to get the pit lane game modded for fuel management right? Can I just buy that here from one of the guys or how do I do that?

RikoRocket here on the forum does the upgrade for the Pit Lane Game to turn it into Pit Pro which allows for fuel management and the pit lane sensors that he installs also allow for cars only to refuel in the Pit Lane and not everywhere on the track as you can do without the Pit Lane Game upgrade. For the Pit Pro to work you will need to have a pc to run the SSDC software (Scalextric Sports Digital Console available through Andy Wallace here on the Forum or from his website, there is a link to this under his posts on the forum) which connects to the C7042 Advanced Powerbase (APB) via a specially made cable (available from RikoRocket also). If you get RikoRocket to upgrade a Pitlane Game for you he will also supply you with the cable needed to control Pit Pro via your pc as well.
Purchasing the Digital Platinum set is the best way to go as you will have everything you need for a start, hold off on purchasing the Pit Lane game until you have asked RikoRocket about supplying you one upgraded, it may save you some coin this way. As you have said already you have done the maths and buying everything in the Digital Platinum set individually adds up to a lot more than the asking price for the set. You can add more lane changers, extra track, SSDC and Pit Pro as you go.

Cheers

Thanks Matt, good stuff.

So one more quick question: I need the pit lane game for fuel managmenet of any type or will the 6 car base allow the basic fuel function described above (or any fuel function for that matter)???

Thanks again.

You only need the computer connection for fuel management. Pit-Pro just adds realism by implementing a few restrictions, such as not being able to refuel anywhere on the track (and get crashed into ;-), having a pit lane speed limit, and other things. But, without Pit-Pro, using just a pit lane to pull the cars off to the side, and with SSDC or PC Lap Counter on a computer connected to the APB, you can do fuel related things.
