QUOTE Scalextric Digital is significantly more compatible with existing slot car product. It works on normal Scalextric track, recently produced cars can be retrofitted with Digital Controllers
and other Digital system cars can also operate on Scalextric Digital.
That's a quote from a certain supplier's News Letter.
As it might not be strictly accurate, I am being kind in not stating the source.
Has anyone any insight into the section I have emphasised?
Or do we think that, in the absence of any explanation, it could be slightly misleading?

Looks like what we already know.

You can buy a scaly chip and put it in any car.

And it works with existing sport track.

But then that is true of Carrera. What remains to be seen is if carrera will sell chips. Probably not. . .

SCX is the least compatible.

Carrera has not only no plans to sell PRO-X decoders, they actively rebutted to make any such material available, even as spares. That´s the result of a recent inquiry we placed. IMHO, this attitude has a business side ("let´s first try to breed a market of PRO-X addicted people large enough for us") and an organisational side. Stadlbauer is a marketing & sales organisation. R&D does practically not exist, is outsourced. This makes it complex to quickly adapt to market needs in terms of product placement and quantities.

Are you getting at the factt hey can only operate when chipped, and its misleading in the sense that you read it and think any car will work out the box?

Its just my take, I (sadly) don't really know enough about digital to read deaper.

Hi Gary,
yes, with any digital slotracing system, a car needs to be equipped with a decoder chip in order to receive and process signals coming from the controller. The digital section of this forum is probably the best place around to dig deeper into digital slotracing, just read on.

The exact wording is
QUOTE and other Digital system cars can also operate on Scalextric Digital.
Not just "other" cars, nor mention of adaptation in any way.
I think it is a little misleading but perhaps through lack of knowledge rather than deliberately.
