Welcome to all viewers to the latest round 8 of the 2011 SCX proxy rally to be run at the Wolverhampton club UK

Tracks used will be

Our brand new Aldersley Paddock Stage, which is formed from the infield section of the Aldersley club tack which we ran on last time (2009)
This is a copper tape on matt painted wood giving changeable grip very twisty, 50 feet long circuit. Picture to follow of new circuit but see the overall circuit photo from last time.
Where the grand stand is pictured is now our first section, and the fire exit area is the other remodelled area.

10 second laps If you are lucky!!!

New fire door end being cut by young Andy Bartle and Me on the Hoover

Orlerton Park

fast small compact circuit good cornering and quick acceleration required 4-5 second laps here!!!

Blakeley Green

Smooth with tight turns good balance required again 5 second laps

Our expierenced club members will supply the trigger fingers, and each will drive all the cars on the same stage they are nominated to run

Should be interesting watch this space

QUOTE (kidvolt @ 8 Jun 2011, 14:10) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Interesting tracks. It appears that one of them is a three-piece track while the other appears to be resting atop a pool table. I'm a big fan of clever.

Enjoy the cars.

Yes

we share our facility with a youth club so "while the cats away" we get to play
i hope we will all have a ball

It was a great event last time ( a little quieter this time as we are trying to organise a touring car event at the club in December check out the seperate thread).

We are nearing the off for stage one this evening.

times will be posted tomorrow (hopefully)

Could someone from the event please post them on a thread on SCX forum as we do not have access (this year)

We cleaned the braids, tyres etc and three of us inspected the cars last night and gave them a test shakedown run on a non event track

The findings were limited to six words max if required

so

mini 177 Stable drives well
Stratos 26 Poor braking effect
renault 8TS 101 Good All round
Stratos 05 jumps around under acceleration
Alpine 01 Good and stable
131 04 Poor braking effect rolls on
124 07 good and stable
5 turbo 15 good and stable
escort 10 tips very easy on corners
alpine 14 corners poorly
Sunbeam 16 good speed everywhere
sierra 18 very smooth, but tips
escort 50 lacks straight line speed
131 52 fast all round
131 55 stable but brakes to one side
sunbeam 56 lacks speed
131 61 smoooooooth
131 102 handles poor in tight corner
citroen DS 195 corners well for big narrow car
131 20 good speed brakes to one side
gto 03 unstable but quick
celica 11 bumps and jumps
959 09 smoot and steady
celica 11 bumps and jumps around, brakes awkwardly
037 17 brakes to one side
S4 19 nice in corners
037 28 smooth
RS200 66 also smooth
959 99 corners well hops under acceleration
gto 103 handling is nice
037 305 brakes to one side

These are the opinions of a couple of our younger members and may not be of use to gauge the event as we have differing types of circuit to be used

our Ferrari 103 was a little battered as was rico's, all fixed

I had to carefully straighten the screw posts in our to prevent the wheels rubbing constantly, tyres had gone off one was like concrete with the other not far behind (just too old I guess) plus the front had been compressed some how, all the other cars are fine and run well, no mechanical faults evident
Rico's Ferrari front end was also straightened.

Good luck to one and all

watch this space.......

Well sorry for the delay in posting alot to go through and check

All the cars were driven on the same track by the same drivers

Anyway we held the rally yesterday and here is a summary.

Stage 1 Aldersley Paddock. (3 drivers x 4 Laps (per split)) 12 laps total for stage

Drivers for the 3 split times are pictured,

L to R Paul Griffiths, Lewis Gough (in the drivers seat) , Lewis Anthony

Stage is the green/black area infield pictured

Paul Ready for another go,

Trying to get through the twisty bits

Lewis Anthony now in the seat,

Reports were that all the cars ran Ok but some were lacking in grip onto the straights hence they could not progress very quickly,
Reeks car being the most unfortunate.

Fiat 131's rule the roost

Stage 2 Orlerton Park (3 drivers x 10 Laps (per split)) 30 laps total for stage.

Drivers for the 3 split times are pictured,

L to R Kevin Sharples (Time Keeper), Drivers Matt Sharples, Andy Bartle, Sam Cockerton

Andy In the seat

Sam and Matt waiting for the next drive

Kevin after I told him 2 hours down and you are halfway!!!!!! (Can you spot his relative in this shot)

Alpine mid stage

Reports back from this crowd were that the wider cars suffered, but the nimble Fiats carried on their dominance on this strip of ashphalt.

Stage 2 Blakeley Green (3 drivers x 5 Laps (per split)) 15 laps total for stage.

Driver in this stage were

Pictured from right to left

Paul Griffiths (From Stage 1) Lee Andrews, Dave Young, Bill Charters not pictured

Then my good self and Rob Wallader who helped out on this rally scoring and totting up the times

Dave in full flight

Track waiting for the next runner

The Citroen DS working hard throught the woods

Delta on the limit

Comments on this one were that the agile cars once again, with the Porsches really handling the wooded area well
Reeks car did recovers some time here but the gap was already too large, the Wolves Ferrari suffered even worse here.

Any way all of our guys really enjoyed the evening and especially your cars for all sorts of reasons!!!

Here is the Results table

Well done to the podium guys

Class1

First Renault 8TS 101 wolves
Second Lancia Stratos 5 Anthony
Third Lancia Stratos 26 Kidvoltage

Class 2
First Fiat 131 102 Wolves
Second Fiat 131 55 Yngnwie
Third Fiat 131 205 Zero 5

Class 3
First Delta S4 Ontheflipside
Second Porsche 959 9 Gazza
Third Lancia 037 356 Speedster

Overall
First Fiat 131 102 Wolves
Second Fiat 131 55 Yngwie
Third Lancia Delta S4 Ontheflipside

Well done to all.

Now we are not moving on too far for the next event!!! about 1metre!!!!!
As the French Round has been cancelled we have agreed with Tore to run it at our club with more different stages so that the full programme is met this year!
So I will start a new thread for round nine (UK 3) tomorrow and start that ball rolling, the results will be posted next weekend.

More spreadsheets to fill in........

Cheers (halfway there)

Thanks for a great event Ian and Malcolm!

Unfortunatly I've not been able to follow up on the latest events as much as I'd like due to work/travel , so thanks for running the round and posting the thread.

"Hi guys.

As the organizer of this series I need to make a decision. I have not been able to follow up on the series as much as I'd like lately, or as much as I feel is demanded by the entrants/hosts. The main reason is an increased workload, travel, other demands from the family and to be honest a bit of lack of interest due to the situation.

I know I will be extremely busy the next two weeks, and then I'll be more or less unavailable the following two weeks strolling around on a Greek island. In short I'll be more or less occupied until mid July, and at the same time the series is behind schedule and needs to be re-organized if we are to complete the remaining events.

So far we have completed 8 events and the 9th is being run now and will be posted next weekend as a replacement event for the lost French event.

The remaining events are in Spain, Italy, Denmark and Norway, and to be honest I am a bit concerned about the cars safety while shipping to/from Spain and especially Italy. Not trying to offend anyone (Graham), but I see lot's of eBay sellers that refuse to ship to Italy and that makes me wonder how safe the postal system is down there. We almost lost our cars in shipping in the last season, and I really don't feel comfortable anymore being the one who get blamed if $3000 worth of slotcars should go missing.

The question is how do we finish off this series? To be honest I would prefer to end the series premature as I don't feel I have the time or power to re-organize and follow it up properly. But I also feel that some of you are really looking forward to some of the remaining tracks, so if someone wants to step up and help me re-organize and follow up events, I think we can manage to pull off at least a couple more events.

If nobody steps up, I will instruct the cars to be shipped to me and I'll run the final event in Norway the 15th-17th July.

Tore,

I have not spoken to Malcolm or indeed anyone else yet.
We have the cars currently and are ideally based within the uk to use them to either, run them on other track variants to gain another round or, as other clubs are nearby we can travel and organise an event(s) within 1.5 hours from our place to fill the gaps

Let me or Malcolm know your thoughts Tore and anyone within the UK who could take a days pleasure out of holding a rally event

Regards

Ian,

Thanks for all the work. The characteristics of my car clear do not go well with some events. I think my car needs the tires to be clean to do well.

So if you have the time can you please clean the tires with tape (... also between stages...). Thank you. If not possible due to time constraints, then it is part of the proxy series.

Rally P

All the tyres for all the cars were cleaned between stages,

Some cars just didn't like the surfaces or combination of corners.

As we were doing the whole event in one evening the guys used a couple of their own cars to get a grip of the stage they were driving and then it was straight in, for the event.

Better luck next time

Tore,

I completely understand the lack of time and possible lost of interest. I unfortunately also do not have the time (due to relocation to New York this fall for a year) to take over the organization, but maybe some of the folks in Australia could do it. They have been a driving force behind this series. I am a bit surprised with the seriousness of the issues with mail in Italy and Spain. I have had no trouble with packages from Spain and have bought many things from there.
I think if someone steps up then the series should go everywhere. If my car gets lost in this adventure I will take it has part of the experience and will NOT be upset with the organization.

Ian,

Since the tires were clean, then this means that my car is not tuned to be driven well by sorts of drivers which is a key characteristic of a proxy race car. Conclusion, I should have put more lead in the car.
Thanks for everything.

Best,

That is a very generous offer Ian. I want to give it another day to see if we can get some feedback from the other entrants before deciding for a solution we can be comfortable with.

Thanks

If there are concerns about the Italian Postal Service then I would, based on all the other issues surrounding Tore's decision, be happy to dip out of the series. I do wonder whether it's any worse than the UK postal service actually. I would suggest that next year the cars are couriered over or brought over personally by someone like Dave Capelen. If I lost my car in the post then that would be sad, but not the end of the day. It's a risky business sending a box of cars round the world.

I really hope things can be sorted for next year. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the series as it progresses and was really looking forward to my contribution.

I fully intend to enter a team of LPV cars, one for each class, next year.

i´m pretty sure that the spanish post is ok, i was wondering what was going on. i was looking forward to hosting spain, but if there is some problems with time then by all means do what you have to do. i too have had plenty of work issues here recently so all of the tracks are in pretty much a bad state, but by no means cancel spain because of that, a couple of hours cleaning will sort it all.
why does it have to finish by august??
cheers sig
i´ll be watching for updates

Hello all,
Firstly, thank you once again to Ian and Malcolm and team for running Round 8 - much appreciated.

On the continuation of the event, I believe that anyone who enters a proxy racing event accepts that the cars may go missing or get damaged whilst on the tour. So as far as I am concerned, I am not worried about shipping to/from Italy and Spain - I fully accept the risk. Having said that I have sent cars to Italy before and received from Spain and Italy several times without any problem. In fact, for me, the only parcels that have gone missing were being sent from France and within the UK.
Sorry, but for a number of reasons, I don't feel that I could offer to take on the organisational role.

Kind regards, Leo
