Is anyone else having problems with SCX's finish?

I've got a Volvo S60R in the lovely green livery, except the paint (appears to be a decal process) on about half the car is flaking. Recently, I got their Citroen C4, and it has a similar problem with a small area of the roof peeling.

A Citroen DS with a gouge across the whole roof under the paint. A 997 GT3 with black marks under the clear coat.

I really wanted the yellow Barracuda, but given SCX's recent history, I went to the LHS to have a close look at it, black spots all over, and what looked like a crack in the finish on the rear fender.

I wonder if the paint is flaking in their boxes, how will they possibly hold up on the track?

I've searched the topic an apparently no one else has had the same issue?

I've got 26 SCX cars and I've not had a single issue with paint / decals or anything with the finish on the body. I frequent the SCX message board and I've not seen one thread created about paint problems. Were all of your SCX cars purchased from the same seller?

i find the paintwork on scx cars to be as robust as anyone else. my nascar has certainly taken a beating club racing and still looks brand new.

I've got a total of 30+ SCX cars, this paint problem seems to have cropped up since they started clear coating their cars.

Here's the Volvo (peeling all across the back and even an apparent bare spot over the rear fender):

The C4 (peeling on and next to the roof scoop):

SCX were one of my favorite brands, but now it seems to be too much of a lottery, so buying online is out for me, while retail means a limited choice.

Wow - that is bad - i'll be honest and say i have never seen anything like that before and i have a lot of SCX cars.

Is this straight from the box brand new?

The reason i ask is that this looks just like the early stages of a car during Meths stripping, i.e. some form of chemical reaction. Recent SCX releases are actually really tough to strip oftern taking days to get the paint and tampo off.

Where did you buy them from?

Well the Volvo's arrived, apart from a missing spoiler in a sealed box the paint seems fine, and not had this issue on any of the 30ish SCX cars I have

The cars have come from various sources, the Volvo is a Scalextric Spanish market model, the C4 is from an online retailer here in Oz, the Porsche with a chip/ black marks came from the US, and I've the 'Cuda with black flecks was in a local shop, I also have a pair of scratched cars (one under the paint), still with their seals intact. I think the SCX clear coat is very 'hot' and is peeling the paint/decals/tampos underneath. I have a couple cars that look like they were about to wrinkle. The C4 photo is taken through the clear box, so that is fine.

I bought my last ten SCX in short succession and I'm unhappy with about half of them. No more SCX for me by the looks of it.
