When does one consider it news-worthy? When the books don't balance the first time? When the company goes searching for a buyer? When the deal falls through? When it doesn't fall through? When the buyer signs on the dotted line? When the re-funded company is re-launched?

Has the Company itself has actually officially admitted anything yet?

Speculation has been going on for more than 12-24 months that something was up.

I normally post SCX news, i have a very good relationship with the UK distributor.

To be honest all the recent reports, rumours, speculations, posts, blogs etc, etc have not been confirmed by anyone at Technitoys or any potential new owners.

As soon as i receive something official i will post it in News.

All,
This is a very worrying situation, these rumours have been percolating around for too long. there is a thread over on SCXWW which seems to suggest there are real difficulties beyond scuttlebut. .....

I have a very strong affection for SCX, it's mainly their slot's which brought me back to this past-time a few years ago. I buy mainly SCX cars and it would be a sad day to see them finished. I think the situation has reached a point where some formal statement or clarification of the situation needs to come from SCX in Spain. Their loyal consumers deserve/need nothing more than the facts as they stand.

I would hazard to guess, "all of the above" would qualify as "news". Whether a forum wishes to make this "publically" known or not is of course up to the persons running that forum. I can however appreciate the need for being cautious.

A quick research on spanish official websites learns that in the last three months the company has changed several times its board of directors and is now always mentioned as "sociedad extinguida" or "defunct company". Actually it looks like a company that is in liquidation and it's lead by an "Asesor externo con funciones de Director General en Tecnitoys Juguetes S.A" by the name of Jordi Daga Sancho. Headquartrers have been moved and the contact adress is not generaly correct in commercial informations. Doesn't seem a company in good health ...

Hi,

I hope it is not true.SCX make good products.I am a Classic man and love the grip their tracks give(Sport is to slippery for me)Their cars are also well built.Hopefully someone will bail them out and continue production as I have quite a large collection of SCXr cars and would hate to see them fall into disrepair for lack of parts.
I do not completely understand though as they have a new website advertising the latest releases.

Well here is hoping.

Cheers

Actually somebody posted a newspaper or Press release here somewhere that I read several days ago, and I first started hearing about their demise at least a month ago. I have also seem evidence of it at my local hobby shop, Stacks of NASCAR sets at fire sale prices. Last time I was in there they had at least 8 unopened cartons of SCX sets all priced @ 1/2 of retail!

Something is definately up there, whether they will emerge and in what form sounds like it changes from day to day, but I liken it to when Fly reorganized, one day they were gone and the next they were back.

I am sure the details will rise from the ashes if the company doesn't, I too would miss SCX, many of the cars I have bought over the last few years have been SCX, I REALLY liked their MGA! a VERY Pretty car!

I am a BIG fan of their Compact line as well, which is one of the few quality offerings in 1/43 so I will be VERY sad to see them go if indeed they disappear.

If I were you I'd buy some, all of them, at half price you can't lose. Even if the rumor is found untrue. You could still sell on eBay, or here, and make a tidy profit, either way the wind blows.

Not to further the rumor mill. Other slot manufactures have been a little slow getting their cars out. I don't follow the ins and outs of slot producers. Still, I see ads for new 1/32 slot cars, then sellers post delays on their web sites . . .

That said, if SCX indeed has a good base of customers, and surely some slot types like them. There may be yet a place at the table for them, this assumes they're gone.

The bigger whine for SCX, is that they are beyond being boutique producer . . .

I posted my initial thoughts on the other thread, so I won't dulpicate them here. There has been a lot of speculation about SCX/Tecnitoys in the year since I came back to slots, and it must have been going on for longer than that. Having had another few days to ponder on the situation, here is another 2p-worth from me.

I didn't know that SCX existed before I joined SlotForum, but I must have bought getting-on for 30 of their cars and a Rally Chrono in the past year. The majority of my car collection is SCX. I have to say that, for me, Tecnitoys have made the best selection of slot rally cars. I will be disappointed if the prospective buyer of Tecnitoys doesn't continue the SCX brand and continue to supply us with good quality rally cars.

At the end of the day, in the absence of a definitive statement from either Tecnitoys or the prospective buyer (who's name I can't remember), we can only wait and hope. The fact that Tecnitoys have announced new releases for 2012 does, to me, make it seem like they are keen to sell the brand as a going concern.

I don't know how much Technitoys's legal wrangle with the Red Bull people cost, but I don't suppose it can have helped the situation. Also, the investment in digital doesn't seem to have been anything like a success for Tecnitoys, either. I read somewhere in the last few days that maybe there's a case for different manufacturers standardizing digital technology - I have to agree with this. The manufacturers need to accept that serious buyers/hobbyers(?) will always want to mix'n'match their collection of cars, even if they stick to one make of track.

My final thought........ Should the worst happen and SCX/Tecnitoys ceases to exist, I hope that Ninco can somehow fill the void. They are the only other brand that I've found so far who do rally cars properly. Hornby really nead to learn lessons from these two.

..... And, just in case, I've started stock-piling motors and cheap cars to rob for spares.
