Hey guys, I just got a scx pug lola and the lights were originally working fine, but now they are on and off. Except when I hold down the front into the slot and lift the rears up, give it full noise, wait one second and bam all the lights come on sweet, then I can run around until I crash off then have to repeat the process to get the lights working again? This seems a little different to everyone else's dramas. Also, when I swap my power to 16v per lane (scaley sport analogue) the lights are fine. Does this sound like a connection issue inside the car? I just can't seem to find one though it might be the copper connections in the body 2 chassis?

Should I do the first step of putting The resistor in my pug?

Hi Guys

I'm electronically inept.

My older brother baffled me with electronics when i was a kid.Whilst making his own radios and gadgets.

I once got him to wire in some lights on my old scalextric rs200
And was amazed at how these small components work.

Coloured rings meaning there values etc

He added a part (diode..?)what kept the back lights nice and bright,it looked amazing in the dark

I have just spent the best part of an hour enthrawled at the information contained within.

Well done to all for such a great read.

Really enjoyed it.

I've read this thread with great interest as I've now got 3 SCX cars that my Scalextric track set-up has blown the lights on - Corvette C6R, Sierra Cosworth and Alpine Renault A110. I've also got a Scalextric Impreza WRC with only the front lights in place, the rear ones aren't there at all.

Now....... My soldering skills are that bad that an elephant could probably do better. Is there anyone who would/could repair the offending cars for me?

Also, is it possible to convert earlier SCX cars with the rubbish lights (Corolla WRC and Lancer EvoV, for example) to the later system?

TIA
Stuart.

The rear lights that were fitted when I bought the car appear, from Scalextric service sheets, to have been bodged-in by the previous owner.

I have 2 SCX Escort MkIIs one is working fine the other has a blown component on the front light board as they only glow very dimly on full throttle.

I bought some 120 ohm resistors but realise now that these are for prevention on my fully working car only. I am a bit ignorant of the complexities of electronics but wondered why there is such a difference in the values of the resistor for prevention and repair?

hi
you cant use a resistor to repair anything, unless your replacing a damaged resistor of course.

The difference in values caters for differing voltages,so with the correct value resistor you could run the lights at 18v for example..

If the led is blown then it must be replaced, but i think it mentions somewhere in this thread that scx spares do not cover led boards.?

Well my plan is to fit a 120 ohm resistor to the fully working car as a prevention. The faulty car has operational LEDs so I was going to remove the front light board, solder the two LEDs together in series and fit a resistor as the feed as shown on taxi's DBR9 and C6R. However as I am not replacing the LEDs as taxi did, I am a little confused as to what their rating is and what the appropriate resistor should be.
