Just recently got back into slotcars and have started building a permanent layout.

I was wondering whats the best way to secure scalextric track down so it doesn't move, especially as i'm working on a rally track with lots of elevation changes.

Hi Was,

Welcome.

Apart from track clips, you can use silicone (the clear stuff for bathrooms works well) or hot glue (applied with a glue gun).

Either silicone or hot glue can be removed later with a little pressure and no damage to the track.

Silicone glue has much to recommend it, being strong but flexible and removable.
But I wonder whether people prefer clear or maybe black, to match most tracks?

I'm building a perm but moveable landscaped rally track (check out GetSlotted) and found hot glue to be an essential tool - glues track to MDF, polystyreme and then glues lights, tress, barriers, borders, ie everything to anything. Also you can break the bond without damaging other parts. Brilliant stuff.

I've got thru 7 sticks in two weeks so far.

I go through about 1000 a month, Matt. Don`t buy them from B&Q or similar, get thee down to ye old fashioned Ironmongery type shoppe and buy the bloomin big long ones for 5 pence each...save a fortune!

I say pin it. They pull out without damage providing you are careful. Much better to keep the track in the correct position and help electrical continuity. Use the same holes time after time.

Be careful with the old hot glue gun, many scars to prove not a good idea to answer the phone with a hot glue gun in your hand! Mind you it was my chosen weapon against Alex Riley when we fimed "Short Circuits". His weapons being...editing and blue racing overalls! Gave him some cracking injuries, once right on the old `John Tomas`
