I thought I'd post some pix here of my track and scenery work. I'm making a model (or my interpretation) of Justin Herman Plaza/Embarcadero area in downtown San Francisco. I used to live there and miss it a great deal, so when it came time to decide on the setting for my track, it was obvious what I should do. I have tons of work ahead of me but it's lots of fun learning how to make my own buildings and scenery. This structure is a street car stop, one of many that are along the Embarcadero in San Francisco. It's not an exact model of what the real one looks like...I couldn't figure out how to make the real one with my limited model making skills...

Enjoy and I'd love to hear what ya'll think of it.

Right. Dave, you are one of the best scenery builders in my book. I don't see anyone outside of an architectural firm making stuff this good.

Keep it up my friend!

Dave , your modelling skills look pretty awesome to me, whether they are prototypical or not.

Looking forward to seeing some more pictures as you make progress

Dennis, actually yes I do need some pictures of the area.

1. I need a good wide shot of the street car stop (without a street car infront of it, and so you can see the whole stop).

2. I need a shot of the intersection where Mission meets the far end of the plaza area (so I can see the fronts of the buildings there).

3. And a wide picture from the Ferry Building area looking back towards...my favorite structure...Coit Tower. I can't remember what the hill and foreground looks like from the Ferry Building.

4. If possible a wide shot from the Ferry Building up towards the Bay Bridge...yes I'm entertaining thoughts of making the Bay Bridge...I know...I'm a lunatic.... I'm not sure how the Bay Bridge "appears" behind the buildings in that area.

I've looked all over the internet and have found one virtual tour that has been helpful, but surprising few shots of the street car stop itself.

Those are pictures that would be helpful.

Palm trees are available from Plastruct and they aren't cheap but I have 6 already. I'm sure with the number of trees I think I need it will make me broke:unsure: .

And while you're at it...go to Red's have dog and a beer and think of me...suffering in NYC.

David, do these trees bend? I need vertical trees (trees that go straight up, that's how the palms on the real street I'm making look) and these have kind of a sweep to them. The look like good models and the are sure cheap.

The whole track. I just put up lights last night, so now instead of that awful overhead light I have 3 (soon 4 overhead) directional lights that cast warm light onto the track and only the track.

Dave,

Looks really nice, and I really like the overall shot.

I agree, lighting is very nice. I hope to paint the unfinished wall soon to help cheer the area up.

Homesick? 13davek. Well i can surely understand that, San Francisco is a nice city...and so is your scenery. I´m very impressed with your modeling skills. Not to mention the lighting, they add a nice effect to your "slot world". Hope you keep us all updated with pictures as you progress with the scenery. Keep up the exellent work

Triggy, well actually in hindsite, I'd redesign it so in the hairpin turn I'd widen the lanes out so the only place were it would be no passing would be in the esses. But since it's wood, it's too late for that, no big deal.

But having said that... it's a challenge to have a track you can really only pass on the back stretch. Most tracks are unrealistic in that you can pass anywhere on them, and I subscribe to the theory that you learn to drive better when things are tougher not the other way around.
