The last time I posted in here was in 2011. The birth of our youngest and being busy at work resulted in me drifting away from SSD. The circuit shown in my footer fell into disrepair. I made a half hearted effort to reduce the size and make it suitable for an 8-year olds short hands. But even that project never really saw the light of day. At that stage the circuit was unusual as me with all the kit being put into storage.

That baby is now 11 and, looking for a Lockdown project (last years lockdown project was a vegetable patch!), we decided to resurrect our layout. It mostly had to be rebuilt but we retained the original hill section.

Id like to share our journey.

Once we decided on the new layout we had had to resurrect our PBpro. Confused about the developments - Arc Pro/APB since Ive been away a call with Riko set us on the right track. Within a few days we had everything up and running again.

It has been great fun racing again, even if you are getting trashed by your 11 year old (no respect these young one!)

We had to scratch build new pit buildings to fit the new layout. I like changes in elevation and rocks (dont ask) so that set the tone for the new circuit.

The centrepiece is a scratch built open-sided mountain tunnel, the kind youd see in the high mountains of Switzerland. This sits above the the pit garage and the surrounding landscape is meant to look like mountain meadows and high hills.

WoW! Great looking layout....I'm also a fan of elevation changes just adds a little something to the layout.

Your landscaping is really nice. Are the rocky cliffs just painted foam?

Nice job on the tunnel. Cant wait until a moderator fixes your pictures, my neck hurts

Thanks Primed

The Rick fades are all made of plaster from a woodland scenic moulds. I carve the general contours in foam, then fix the rock faces and then contour the landscape and blend in using sculptamold.

The black tool is in fact a foldable leg for a kitchen unit! These are affixed to a model railway layout which is hoisted to the ceiling. When I need to access the model railway it drops down on to the SSD track and sits on these legs. Its in the pic because I was checking the height when finalising the landscape. Anything features that are too high will get squashed when the model railway drops down.

FBC...good looking track!

The title of your thread caught my eye....in the mid 1960's I lived in Beckenham and went to school in Shortlands. I raced at the Lewisham club above a pub in Ladywell Road and also at Taylors in Brockley.

I have lifted and painted a section of the circuit following painting advice from slotterkeith in a separate thread on painting track. Its the first time I have painted track and Im pleased with the outcome.

And then today we started to test it in anger and the newly-painted track performed really well.
