hi
that shows then that the apb in standard trim to be a lot better than c7030 in the same spec,a lot better.

But it cant match that excellent sh board. These percentages are all taken at a 2.5 amp load ? .when you factor in lc sections and six cars pulling away at the start,i would be happy to bet only the sh board is capable of sticking to its 2% drop, and sticking to it over a much broader spectrum.

Did you once have forty cars running of a modded c7030 rich?

Yes there is a video somewhere on the Forum.
Yes all of those figures at 2.5 Amps. None of the systems are perfect and as the current increases even small amounts of resistance begin to take their toll. S-H sees a 6% drop at 10 Amps & a 9% drop at 15 Amps. However at these currents you had better have some good power taps round the track or the voltage drop in the track will be greater than this. Even the wires from the PSU to the Powerbase need to shortened and beefed up.

hi
can you post any figures for the apb at similiar current draw to the sh ones you have shown rich?

I realise it may not have been tested to 15amps but i seem to remember a figure of 8 amps being shown.

QUOTE (RichG @ 5 Feb 2011, 08:26) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Sounds about right. but there is a 7% drop in output voltage when the APB Powerbase is driving 2.5 Amps to the track. For comparison a standard C7030 would see a 34% change and an S-H unit 2%.

You have to love science when real world test confirm the bench tests...

I agree there must be a non linear relationship and the "speed" differential at top speed... the difference would probably be greater at full throttle as some of the "amps" would be wasted through the motor creating more noise and heat at the highest voltages

There are very few occasions when all six cars have more than 60% throttle at exactly the same time... (Except for BBENSCA!) most home setups rarely have more than 4 racers and a couple of pace cars bigger differences will probably be unimportant.

It's all in the Power Thread.

I have split the track from the PB-Pro and have a plug by which I can separate the two. Does the new APB use the same wires to communicate with and power the track? And does the track have the same circuitry?

Either somewhere on this thread or another one there is a picture of the guts of the C7042. It has TWICE the power cables connected differently but I think the data wires are the same.
I am sure someone will be in shortly to correct me!

Separating my PB-Pro is on my to-do list after spring break... Did you go the RJ45/cat5e cable route for the data? That is my plan (see JeremyR's photo of his PB with the power and data connectors).

Cheers!
