Slow progress in my matching pair of Opel Mantas this week. I had two Avant Slots that I wanted to do as Russell Brookes and Jimmy McRae’s cars and found decals for them in France. Quite risky to try and make a livery from a patchwork of decals resized from a static model because slot manufacturers take such liberties with proportions,

McRae’s car was going well but some of the decals hadn’t adhered very well after 24 hours. I put a light coat of Decal Fix on them and they instantly shrivelled like cellophane under a hot grill!

A lesson learned so I shall await replacements and use something else next time. Meanwhile the Brookes car is coming on, although still a fiddle.

Brookes is done - these are seriously carppy decals by the way. But I am delighted with how the interior came out and I’m fitting Slot.It axles, gears, wheels and Flat-6 RS motor in case I dare risk it in competition.

Porsche options for this week’s rally:

Fly Racing 911 Carrera RS with 17k motor and lots of springs in all the right places for Classic class

SRC Porsche 914 with 21k M7 motor and springs galore for Classic class

Fly/Avant Slot 911 SC with insane 27k motor and absolutely no springs for 80a/90s class if I’m brave enough and don’t just take the ol’ faithful SRC 205 Turbo Seize

I’ll be doing some comparison tests tonight at the club before making a final decision, and working hard to get my TR7 finished.

Progress on the body for the 911 SC. Started life as yellow and stayed that way for far too long despite repeated blasts of white primer and topcoat.

I’ve got it to a reasonable state - still a bit off-white in places but they will be covered with decals and details plus I’ll weather it a bit.

What is the base for that 206?

The 206 is a Top Slot resin, which drops onto an old NC1 Ninco Megane chassis. Lots of tuning potential!
