Yeah, ladies don't like you calling them 'it', Dany. 🤨

Man! You've moved quick, though! I didn't know the kits were actually in the shops yet.

I will bag one (car) in the hope that some decent decals appear.

Edit
Didn't say but, nice job on the bodywork. The car!! Sheesh!

Nice job. I am trying to get my hands on one of the whitekits.
Where did you get the decals from?

They are available on slotcar-boutique at the moment...but I cannot register there.
Chris is trying to figure out how much it will cost to send to NZ.

Hi,

As I am not taking part in this year's painting competition, I can already present you my interpretation of the McLaren Jota car.
The car is being prepared for race by a cute lady.

I hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed painting it.

Dany
Very nice job , I’ll wait for the availability of a good set of decals or a good RTR livery.

Where did you get the girl figure ? Looks like those made by Lemans Miniatures or Sideways.

Cheers

About the green, I first tried the candy bottle green from Alclad with a silver base coat. But the masking tape completely ruined the job. So I reverted to a more "opaque" color from ZeroPaints and since I was also painting an NSR Porsche 997 in Lizard Green ...
For the lady, she is part of the car wash girls set from MAiM (Modern Armies in Miniature ref:MAiM32011)
I've just finished assembling the car today. So I'll try the car on my home track for the steup and take her to the club next Thursday.
But I don't expect to beat those mighty NSR GT3.

You might be surprised...what track do you usually race on? And which kind of setup (motor and tyres) do you use?
I have almost finished the Sideways M6 Playstation and I was testing it today and man it is really sweet.

Another question: how did the masking tape ruined your paint job? Did the paint flake out when you removed the tape?

The club has a 6-lanes Carrera track, with a long straight. So I guess strong magnetic effect motors will always give some advantage. (Not sure though ! They are probably better drivers)

I sprayed a ZeroPaints grey primer, then some white and masked the white area to spray the Alclad silver base coat, then the Green Candy all was still ok.
When I removed the masking tape over the white, small areas peeled off. So I masked the green to respray the white again. That was a mistake, the Alclad silver base did not adhere on the ZeroPaints primer and most of the green+silver came off with the Tamiya masking tape.

I think alclad is the issue here. I had the same issue with their black base: it does not adhere well and peels off.

As for the setup on your carrera track, you are absolutely right. Just put on the sideways the same motor they run the nsr - assuming it is the long can king motor.
However, do not use one that has been used on an NSR car: when mounted on an NSR pod the motor has to run in the opposite direction than on a slot.it/sideways pod.
So get a new NSR king motor, run it in for 30 min at 1,5v in the right direction for the sideways and you should have good performance.
My preference is to ditch the sideways pod and use a 0.1 offset AW pod.
Ah, and use the same rubber as they use on the NSR.

Hello Gio, Pedro
Small effort for Fola to have the 1/24 decals rescaled, inquiring about them will serve as motivation. Oh and its Slotfabrik, not Slotcarfabrik 😇
From what I've heard so far, SW 720S very similar in proportions to Carrera McLaren so dimensions & rescaled decals should be a good fit.

@ Dany, when using paints from different manufacturers I always apply a thin sealing/isolating layer of Mr Hobby Clear (the petrol resistant type) between them.

With kind regards
Tamar

Several have the look of scalability, whatever that is.

I shall send a message. Should I say, 'Tamar said....' ? 😁

yeah, Pedro, sorry. I ask Fola to scale them for me. The Playstation M6 I did was a 1/24 set originally.

I think the main problem is the adhesion of the base layer. But I agree that a good clear should prevent any interaction between paint type.

I have both, Carrera (body lightened to within An inch of its' life) with a Prospeed chassis and 1mm offset pod, Baby King motor, longer gearing, lightweight wheels etc, which is a great performer alltogether - and boxstock Sideways 720S GT3.

Referring to scale dimensions, the Sideways one is actually identical to the Carrera, even my home made vacform interior tray fits the Sideways without mods, so no scale hotrodding here (as they did with the M6). So using decals made for a Carrera should work out just fine with minimal adjustment here and there.

Performance wise: I tested both back-to-back at Slotracefriends' Ninco track, and within 2 laps the totally stock (bar Slot It 1172 G25 rear tires - same for both) Sideways did exactly the same lap times as they heavily modded Carrera/Prospeed, or even slightly better, with far easier handling. That's with a barely run in motor, standard gearing, original front tires and wheels...

Alltogether it'll be some serious competition for the Sideways Lambo Huracan GT3, if not the new Sideways flagship...

I find the info very interesting, as I have found that the M6 and the Ford Gt are still a bit behind the Lambo in terms of performance (at least in my personal tests), so way to go for Sideways!

Cheers
