Today was the last of three days of testing at Silverstone for most of the Grand Prix teams and my first F1 photo opportunity of the year, this week has seen the first public appearance of the McLaren MP4-19B. It went quite well but the Jaguar of Mark Webber was the quickest overall.

The viewing area for tests is limited so they're not the best pictures but here's a few more.

Cristiano Da Matta

Juan Pablo Montoya

Jarno Trulli

Jenson Button

Rubens Barrichello

I use a Canon EOS1 35mm camera which is about 10 years old and a couple of new Canon lenses 28-135mm and 100-400mm as well as a 1.6 tele converter.

I might switch to digital fairly soon and fortunately the lenses will be compatible with a Canon digital.

Thanks for the comments on the pictures, motor racing photography is my other passion as well as model-making

hi David,

your pictures are very impressives, I use a big 35 mm camera like you but not with this talent.

The picture of rubens show a diferent racing line because of his position in the corner. I build a wood track with a racing line that I want very similar to the reality. Slots are reproduced with Bezier lines.

it was very hard to shoot this picture with my little digital camera :

and yours for the comparison :

sorry, I only have a f399 for the picture.

blst, the picture looks great!

It's a very interesting system you have here. I gather that the racing line is automatically selected by the relative positions of the cars so, presumably, the chasing Sauber has moved off the racing line to attempt an overtaking manoeuvre.

But what does the third place Ferrari do? Does it follow the Sauber or does it take the natural racing line?

hi,

it takes the racing line of course !
because the sauber is not on a sensor and the arows have leaved the overtaking sensor. But if a 4th car was in side of the ferrari, the anti-colision sensor constrain the ferrari to follow the sauber. It's for this reason that it is automatic.

look at How it works

A question to David, can I put the picture of Rubens in my website, with your name on of course
I'll not be shoked if you say NO

thanks
