I have been making a new track control "hub" based on an Arduino (to replace my old Phidget-based one). I just finished adding the lap counting interface and wanted to make sure it worked. But connecting to my infrared sensors is a bit difficult right now, so I put together a simple "test box" to simulate the pulses that would come from the sensors. I used an old had-been-used-for-something-else project box and four arcade buttons w/ microswitches. The microswitches were connected in the normally closed configuration to simulate what the phototransistors do when they have adequate light shining on them. A push on the arcade button simulates a lap count -- pretty easy, and very helpful.
