Having just made a single track rally circuit I now need something suitable to count the number of laps and a suitable timer, can anyone point me in the right direction, I am thinking on the lines of doing something like five laps and timing it and as an alternative 3 minutes so need a counter.

here is a piccy of said track, 8' x 2'6", based on a 'pasteboard idea' so it folds in half in an instant for storage, track is 36' in length.

Look for a Microsizers Micro RC lap timer. I use one on our single lane SLOP Proxy Series races. I can't post picks here but if you PM me your email I'll send pics of it and video of our races. The Lap counter is a timer as well and displays back to 1/100 sec. You can run 1-500 lap races, or timed races as well, while getting a tone every time you go faster and holds your fast lap times as well!
If you can't find one I have extra.

Interesting topic.

I am building a hill climb and would like to time the run top to bottom. A light at the start and one 50 ft. up at the finish. Any ideas?

In a perfect world I would like to set it up so that it provides an intermediate time as well as continue counting the time back down as a separate "lap". Any ideas on this one?

I look at using the Carlson system for timing lights but software may be the big challenge.

Ok, found the solution to my problem, I am using Ultimate racer 3 coupled to Zone trigger and a webcam, all my current AND future issues solved, oh yea!
