Slot Car Database

Hi guys a bunch of people at SCI have been tossing around the idea of setting up a slot car database that would contain information on RTRs, parts, motors, etc. Measurements, maybe links to reviews, all the odds and sods that are recorded about these toys we play with but get lost in the ephemera. I was wondering if this is just more idle chatter or whether this maybe something of value.

The idea is that I would set it up on my new slot car site. I have a database and PHP all set up plus I do these types of databases for a living. I would make it available for a select group of contributors to maintain. The information would then be available via reports and search screens for all. I could also make it available to other sites in some manner to be determined.

Any interest or should I forget the whole thing?

Hi Timark

Interesting concept and a bit different to other sites.

Only problem is most of the tracks shown need a relatively large area to set them up.

Obviously that doesn't detract from the rest of the site, which is very encouraging.

I'll keep an eye on developments here with interest.

Cheers
Dave
I started a project similar to this a long time ago, but I never seemed to find the spare time to finish it off.

The idea was a database site where visitors can add basic information through forms, and then some logical query engines builds the cross-reference database between slotcars, model kits, parts, etc.. etc..

There is a rough demo here with some real and some fictional data between model kits and suitable RTR slotcars as chassis donors. It illustrates how useful this could be: http://scratchbase.com/demo.html

I still believe the concept is cool, so if there is any interest I'll might have to try and finish it, if I can find some more spare time.

Note! this development demo runs on a ancient PIII 600 Mhz server on a 2 Mbit SDSL line from my basement in Norway, so it might get slow or even go down if it gets to many visitors.
