Slot forum test track....

After finally getty my own track up and running and tuning some of my own cars GregK had a good suggestion about a way to compare models we don't own against the one we do...

The idea was simple we develop a "test track design" from commonly available parts that any of us could build on the "Rug" for a test session.. By only using times to 1/10 th of a second even the analogue lap counter timer can be used and removes the competitive element! hopefully
...

The idea is to see not who is the fastest racer but what are the fastest cars and by how much on a "standard" track then by timing cars with "Mods" we can see which ones worked best etc.... as long as we are all honest of course... which of course we would be!

All we would need is a "track design" to begin with to start to build up a table of the best cars... Any ideas, designs etc for the track appreciated.

So who is up for doing some testing of their cars.... if we can find a dozen or so people who would like to play could make for some intersting results...

I'm game... digital or analogue it doesn't matter all are welcome.

This has turned out to be a very successful (and long) thread. It's been requested that the final test track layout be
replicated here at the beginning where it's easy to find for reference. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge, hope this helps...

Yep, a good revival of an old thread. I still use this layout to try new cars out, we could do with an updated table of times.

Looks like I stopped updating it in a huff at being beaten... 😁
Thanks for posting the video Mr Flippant, that looks like a brilliant track for testing. I notice you kept your rails nice and shiny! I'll have to look out for some used scaley track now!
Well, that was several years ago now, but yeah, most of my track has remained free of rust or other visible corrosion, even the track in the garage. Then again, it was inoxed quite a few years ago as well. ;-)

While on Boris' enforced exile over in Northants I've thrown together my version of Hankscorpio's original test track with my Policar set.

It doesn't quite work, but it's close. I've left out the half straight on the long curve at the RH end (ringed in red) and put it back in place of the full straight just before the hairpin (blocked in yellow) With a 1/4 or an 1/8 straight it would work with the original design I reckon.

No, I'm NOT going to post any times on it because 1) I can never drive consisantly enough and 2) I've forgotten to bring any borders or track clips with me.

I tried my new Fly Hesketh on the track for the first time. Doesn't work worth a light, it goes maybe 2-3 feet and then stops.

More investigation needed me thinks.

Excellent point you bring up. Policar track being a new entry into the field, and promising to be a great track system all around, should be included in the database somehow. We'll need a proper diagram of the layout as best as it can be done with that track, as well as a lap length for it. I think UR3 added Policar track, or someone shared the file needed to add it. Can someone with that program whip up a version of the SFTT and post it here?
I've got UR3 with the Policar addon, but it's on my other laptop about 120 miles away I'm afraid.

Hi,

This topic revival arrives in good time for me as I just bought Policar's tracks.

I've setup Tracker 2000 and have come up with this option:

Is it close enough to the original test track?
