Slot.it and Arii - a match made in heaven

Well after seeing Swiss' impressive Arii Nissan Skyline conversion and the talk of the unusual Arii kits - I finally got hold of one (all be it about 6 months ago!) and with all the talk of Mclaren's Small Car Proxy event, plus the Subaru 360's pics posted elsewhere on this forum - I thought it was time I put down my airbrush, and picked up my hot glue gun.

Anyway here are some progress shots:

The car has a slot-it HRS mount mount (complete with motor - nicked from an Slot.it Audi!), glued into the Arii kit chassis. It is the inline version, because their just isn't enough room for a sidewinder set-up.

With various pieces of the original chassis cut away, the motor, axle and crown fit quite nicely, complete with some borrowed Scalextric VW Beetle wheels (don't know about these - but they are good for size).

So, I still have to fit the guide blade and probably will get on to this over the weekend - also I plan to use a lexan interior (from a Topslot Supra), but with dash and rear section from the original Arii kit.

If this all goes according to plan the Arii Skyline is possibly next, but if the Arii Mazda R360 Coupe from ebay turns up - that could be next hopefully just in time for the Small Car Proxy event.

Also not sure what paint scheme to go for - any suggestions / pics would be great.

Cheers

Mark

Hi Mark

Looks Great!....Using the kit chassis is a very good idea.

I started one of these about 6 months ago, and I've got as far as fitting a modified GT 40 chassis and sticking on wide arches (the only way I could fit a Sidewinder layout), with Porsche GT3 Wheels from the Hornby kit. I haven't even thought about an interior.

I'll try and take some pictures tomorrow.

As far as Race Prototypes go, there are not very many about!.... I did find a few photo's of a car racing in one of the American Series and based my car on that one. It is all white with two thin blue stripes, (The American racing colours)., together with Blue numbering.

Most of these cars seemed to have been raced in smaller "Clubman" type of events, and their liveries were standard colours with just white or black numbers stuck on.
Overall White with Black numbering would look pretty good!.

Best of luck.

Alan

Cheers Alan, would be great to see your conversion.

How easy did you find it to add wider arches? The ones I have seen in JGTC series do have flared arches and look really cool, but I wasn't sure how it would turn out in model form.

Thanks John P.

Mr Max, saw the film loved the car (nice pic as well!) - was thinking about fitting an Overdrive light kit to it as well.

Cheers,

Mark
Can I just but in her eand ask where you guys get these Arii kits from.

After having a look at the Skyline, I wouldn't mind having a go myself. If anyone knows of a Nissan Pulsar/Sunny GTIR kit that would be the one for me

Ebay is a good source, both my RX-7 and Skyline came from there - as well as the little Mazda R360 coupe I plan to convert and enter in the small car proxy event.

Just type in 'Arii' and loads come up, including cars, planes and japanese robots.

A place in japan also sells them, but I can't think of the website address.

Cheers

These are the photo's, as promised, of the Rx7, as you can see there is a lot of work remaining to be completed!.

The arches are formed from flat Plasticard roughly shaped to the arch shape and then built up in layers. I then use a filler to form the final shape.

Arii kit link

A Japanese model store with excellent English website.

Worth checking on shipping costs, the kits themselves are incredibly good value! Perhaps a combined shipping order can be organised, I know Swiss is also keen to do some more Arii slottifying!

And last time I visited they were hoping for some re-vamped kits to turn up, i.e. Scooby 360 police patrol car!

Mr.M
Nice work Alan, was it difficult to mould the arches? Did think about this last night but didn't want to mess it up.

How long before we see the finished article?

I built up one of thes Arii RX7's a few months back the body fits on the ninco Saxo chassis perfectly (in wheel base though some trimming needed width wise) Mine is painted bright orange and i used the black five spoke wheels from the TVR 400R (scaley) for the interior i used a Scaley sierra cossy. Looks cool though my painting skills aren't that great

I also found that the Arii Supra fits the SCX Scoobie chassis perfectly
therefore able to make the model 4WD just like the real one. I again used a cossy interior and ninco dtm wheels.
Also got to 911's, 260z, 2X Skylines, and some great mongram cameros, mustangs and Vettes to turn in to slots as well as 2 x 55 Chevy's that i am really looking forward to working on i have wanted a slotty 55 for as long as i can remmember
And a recent purchase of a ZZ Top Hot rod (the wonder of e-bay)

These kits are a great intro to scratch building and slot conversions, If you are thinking of giving it a go try it its great fun and you will waiste hours / days / weeks / well you get the picture.

Very nice Alan.

Have been working on the interior today - part original arii kit, part scaley F40 and part plasticard, not looking too bad either.

Also plan to order an overdrive light kit from getslotted tomorrow, which will really finish the job off.

Still unsure about the paint scheme, I've got quite a few white cars and fancy something quite fancy, maybe similar to yours but using different colours or I do have a castrol topslot decal sheet lying around, just don't know yet.

Also the model seems to keep saying to me "gun-metal grey please!" - so we shall see.

Cheers, thanks for posting the pics.
