After several years of only minor changes to the rules it was felt that the challenge needed 'freshening up' a little.

The main rule/format changes for 2012 are outlined as follows:

Tyre choice will be restricted to F compound tyres only.
Only standard non offset mounts can be used in any configuration of IL, AW or SW.
Closed can motors must be used at tracks with steel braid / rails. Open can motors can still be used at venues with copper tape tracks.
The maximum overall width of the front and rear axle/tyre must not exceed 65mm and when the car is viewed from above wheels and tyres must not protrude from the body.

A Full list of the provisional rules for the 2012 season can be found
here

Classes
An additional class has been introduced 'Slot.it Classics'. This is intended to be an out of the box class with minor modifications to aid handling.

Race Format
The heats will be raced over a time of 3-5 minutes / lane. At the end of each race the laps & footages are recorded.
Your worst heat/Race score will be deducted from the total which will be the final positions of the meeting.

Points Scoring
Seniors: 1st - 50pts, 2nd - 46pts, 3rd - 43pts, 4th - 41pts, 5th - 40pts, 6th - 39pts, 7th - 38pts. ETC
Juniors : 1st - 20pts, 2nd - 17pts, 3rd - 15pts, 4th - 13pts, 5th - 12pts, 6th - 11pts, 7th - 10pts. ETC.

Race Dates
Round 1 - GT Raceway March 10/11
Round 2 - North Staffs April 14/15
Round 3 - Wolves May 26/27
Round 4 - Hereford July 14/15
Round 5 - Pendle Sept 8/9
Round 6 - TBA

Round 6 is still to be confirmed. We are looking at various options including running this round at a neutral venue on a neutral track.

At this stage the rules are still provisonal but will be confirmed in plenty of time before the first round at GT Raceway.
We hope that the new rules / format and choice of classes will help attract new drivers to the series.

Thanks Nick

A shame about the finals as they are the only race based upon the ranking on the day.

Would it be possible to review the running order based upon a qualifier for quickest lap such as at Gaydon last year. At least the races during the day would be closer for all concerned.

This would certainly help new drivers to the championship and I can not see a downside for the elite either.

Heats will be seeded, based on drivers points table.
The reason we scrapped finals is down to the amount of time they take to run through and collate results. In many cases the heats are finished by around 3.30 but then it takes another 2 hours to run the finals in which most drivers only get 3 minutes racing.
There will be winners in all classes.

I have been looking at segmented for the same reasons. The time savings are huge, not just by removing the finals, but because you rattle through the groups of 4/6 quickly so long as the drivers and marshals in place stay focused. You can therefore make the heats longer, or even do two lots of racing.

If you go for WFAF, and have a spreadsheet race control can manipulate in real time the format can be very exciting. You are no longer racing 3/5 people, you are racing everyone.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, I can just imagine a few who would be in the top group and throw a paddy when a couple of duff runs drops them to 40th.

Will the seeding for round two be based on the results from round one?
