Any one tried this slot rally thing which seems to be in all the spanish mags, you know putting flour and sand etc on the track . It looks like at the end of the event youll just end up with an extremly messy car and track, but it seems very popular over there.

This has gotta be some kind of record between question and answer!

Looks messy but looks good also.Cocao on the track seems to really look like dry mud.
Hate to think what it would be like if it got damp though.

I watched racebaan's video and that flour really looks like snow.Looks like it makes the car drive like it's on snow too.

Great stuff.May try it one day, just to see what it's like.

Cheers.

zipp it must be a record for an un answered question.
We did try the flour thing at wrexham when we ran the rally there but it was awfull but maybe that was down to mick Lord painting the track with gloss white as well so I will be intrested to find out how the grip at wolves compares when we do it there.

I think that we mist this topic compleat. For me this winter it's 10(TEN)the anniversary building rally tracks!
It's 10 years ago I build my first rally track. Will I was search for old rally track layouts (special that one from Damduin) i found two almost 10 years old pics form my first cacoa experiment!

A year after that (it was around Christmas) I even build a rally track on the floor and on the table!!!
It was a zooitje! Zooitje means messy! But it was fun. I build one track on the floor with plastic sheets between the track and the floor. It was a track like the Andros cup and I used it for racing for a few days!
And I build a demo track on the table. It was not for driving. Just for your eyes only. Like a chritmas tree!

Then a few years later I build Catalunia. (this was the inspartion for Damduin to build Rally in the Basement)
The layout of Catalunya

Track plan and pictures from Catalunia from racebaan.com

And this year we started building the tiny little mobiel rally track AND Col du Darc

I need to do this. Do you just lay the floor or cocoa down or do you treat the track with something for it to stick to? I have also heard of using baked/browned corn startch. Where can you get that cool sectioned bridge in the pics? I have seen this in other pics of rally tracks as well. BTW I just bought a Fly Rally 911. It runs great but would the slick tires work on these types of surface?

I can't believe that anyone would just cover the track with loose material or powder. The first problem would be the buildup under the braids. It would stop the model in inches!

What ever goes on the track will have to be stuck down or painted on!!

This is definitely not true. With Cocoa you may have a problem during your first lap, but when driving Ninco 4-wheel drives, SCX TT, or the two wheel drive Ninco 1600D (Saxo , Clio), you will have no problem! With flour you may have some more problems the first few rounds, so you will have to clean your braids a couple of times. But after that it will be great fun!

This is absolutely not necessary!!! You don't believe me? Have a look at these movies:
