OK Swiss and the rest of you guys how about this for an idea?

As this is a European Forum how about we aim to hold an annual meeting over a weekend. We meet up,race, put a face to the name, invite our favourite traders and anything else we can fit in like having a meal together and sinking a few sherberts? I realise not everyone could get down evry time but worth a try? I`ll organise the event and trust me we will have a superb time.

If we made it in the summer then Phoenix is ideal loads of space in a rural area with camping facilities to save some people money. Free and ample park.Hotels etc close by. Not to mention the best circuit you will ever race on backed up by hi tech support facilities. Bring the Mrs too! We are very close to Stratford upon Avon,Merry Hill shopping centre, warwick castle , Birmingham City centre in the other direction too and very close to the biggest outdoor market in Europe.

Provisional date ...June 2004. Before the kids break up so travel costs etc are cheaper.

Cool idea, but June is so far off. Methinks that we need it sooner. Perhaps a race series in different places.

Trust me mate....when you reach 40 time races by. June is not that far off! It does give people a chance to forward plan though plus if I get the support I can involve other people with a little notice. By that I mean lets gets the Scalextric people up and other manufacturers. The GT car that I sponsor in the British GT Championship along with some drivers would attend. ever wanted to talk to a guy that raced at Le Mans? The event would be used to highlight the profile of Sf but mostly it`s about what we love most...racing slot cars.

Pendle and slot tech have plenty of room but may not be central enough for most folks Birmingham would seem the logical place in the uk to hold a meet of this type but what about our euro pals

The venue I am suggesting...Phoenix , is for a good reason. I`m not talking about getting ten guys together here. I want everyone to be able to attend. If that means a couple of hundred plus then fine! Phoenix is set in a rural setting with acres,yes literaly, of land. Plenty of space for parking and camping. Also we have the infrastructure, catering,parking,security,man power and most of all my experience at organising such events ,enthusiasm and drive to include some of the features I mentioned earlier.

I`m not talking about a small club event guys, it wants to go at least one stage up from a swap meet. Aim high and see what we can achieve together. The lads from overseas can fly in or drive,flights are reasonable nowadays. U.K. guys, well we are bang in the middle so no excuses, come on lets crack it! You`ll talk about it afterwards for years!

hmm, good idea but wrexham is also in a rural area.. we have lots of grass fr the happy campers and there are lots of cheap hotels and pubs nearby!

Guys my new web site www.phoenixscalextriccircuit.com is in the process of being built. I have just sold SRA (Slot Racing Accessories) which has a web site with my club info on it. In the mean time take a look at www.getslotted.co.uk and take a look at phoenix nights. This wil give you an idea of what Phoenix looks like up to stage one. Also there is a little background info on the set up at present.

It`s helped making the T.V. series `Short Circuits`.The club has benefitted from the experience and I have established some cracking contacts. This Sunday I will be waving at you on T.V. again. This time from the pit wall at Brands Hatch during the British GT Championship race. I sponsor Master Motorsport who run the blue Ultima driven by Steven Brady and Aaron Scott. Jim Brady,team owner makes the BAR F1 chassis and is a cracking bloke. Look on the car for a bloomin big blue and yellow sticker.... Phoenix scalextric club... on the rear downslope above the pistons. Gonna drop swiss some pictures of the car asap. I am also meeting Scalextric directors at the race to discuss possibility of Scalextric making the car. My boys and I would love that. It`s the stablemate to the TVR which is imminent, in fact we are in the next pit garage!

Very good idea. Let's get some shape to the idea before we ask anyone to commit. Could be a good alternative to Le Mans!

Needs a few folk to take charge and be responsible (for no credit or gain , I suspect).

PS B'ham easy to get to (esp if you live in Northampton) and if you book early enough I'm sure easyjet etc will pay you for the flight!

PPS You sold you're baby! Hope the new owners keep on developing the line as well as you did (rally figs as hinted after the Pendle 2002 comp?)

I would be flying Easyjet from Zürich Thomas..

Prices are as low as £1.99 out and £5.99 in (craaazy Maaan ! ) if you book early enough.

I would then hire a car from Gatwick or Luton so space for 4 or more if we are sharing costs..

Gatwick / Luton to Birmingham area time, my style.... a couple of hours, plus we talk Swiss German to the cops if stopped

...ok, then I'll join in - except the meeting is on the same day my son celebrates his birthday - that's a higher priority than slotracing!
With these low prices, we pay more for driving to the airport than flying to UK...

And about fast driving - would a driving licence from middle east help whilst talking arab to the cops?

For you guy out there - translated from german to english the expression means "buy in the shop" but sounds familiar with a well known name...

They arrested a german guy last year in Itlay whilst on the phone with his wife mentionign "bin im Laden" - which means "I'm in the shop" - and people around him have been afraid and called the guardia civil....

We got both Bin Laden and Saddam signed up as members at phoenix, nobody noticed cos they race on NASCAR night when u gotta ghave a wacky race name! They are both as good as gold we never get any trouble out of them.

Thomas no way r u ducking out! Same with the rest of you guys,we`ll just change the date til you say you can come my friend!! You could always bring the boy mate, we still got castles and stuff here if the Yanks don`t buy them up and move them to Las Vegas!!!
