After speaking to some of the traders they are hesitant about coming up north if there is not going to be anyone turn up? So please let me know so i can through some figures back at them to support this event.
Would you be willing to travel to a swapmeet in Doncaster on Sat 30th March 2013?

Hi all,

After checking a 2013 calendar the date i have pencilled in is Easter weekend, and hopefully this may make it more attractive for people to attend. Please answer my poll and support this event. If it's a success i'll try and run it every year.

Thanks,

Alan

Thanks for the headsup re having it on a sunday, looking at the calendar on here it could either be sunday 31st March which is easter sunday or sunday 14th April as there is racing at Pendle slots on sunday the 7th and i don't want to clash with any other event going off.

Thanks for the feedback re Easter, think i might push the event back to April. I am taking everyone's comments on board and i'm very appreciative of them all.

If there's anyone reading this post and part of a racing club please feel free to mention this event to members there or other slotcar enthusiasts who you know, i'm welcoming as much feedback, comments and support i can get at the moment. I really want to get this event off the ground and need all the support from my fellow slot cars racers as i can get. I am doing this for other enthusiasts who live up north and feel that all the swapmeets are too far away.

As well as the forum people can also get in touch via the contacts below., so please spread the word.

Easter will not work, it's been tried before, as John says people have other commitments over bank holiday weekends.
Also you need at least one month between swapmeets so April will not be good as this already has a swapmeet taking place.
I know it's the other end of the country but believe me it does make a difference.
To be honest your only practical months would be March, June or August, but be careful with March/June as there may be overseas meetings taking place.

Adding on to Phil's last comment regarding overseas swampeets in that window of dates, March/ June would be very near the Milton Keynes swapmeet in February, The Slotcar Festival in May and then the Ossett swapmeet in July, so the month between each swapmeet as suggested by Phil doesn't work on these dates as they are thus near other regular events.

Sorry, I didn't quite make it clear, what I meant was that ideally I think there should only be one UK swapmeet in any given month and at least four weeks between meetings, but I guess that if two swapmeets were at other ends of the country then two weeks between would be ok.
Don't forget that just because your meeting may be in the north of the country people would attend who live in the south, a lot of people don't mind traveling and a good proportion of your admissions will be from people who are far from local.

btw, maybe there should have been a 'don't know' included as an option on the voting, as at the moment that's where I would stand as I do not have a full calendar for next year yet.

Ey Up Alan,

The best move by yourself, without question, would be to pay a visit to the most progressive slot-racing club in the area, and see what is going on !!??.

We are situated in Gainsborough, see our site on Slotforum.

You will be more than welcome, and appropriate equipment is available to loan.

Be warned, some members are pretty quick.

see you soon, vbr Chris A.

Hi Chris,

Thanks, think i might pop across to Gainsborough and say hi to you one thursday.
Not sure with the description i've borrowed from your website, sounds a bit ominous lol
Surely it's not that dingy, is it?

The Club is housed above a back street garage, down a dimly lit alley....al adds to the atmosphere!!!

As you enter, you are enveloped in the cool dankness of the building, devoid of any creature comforts, like plaster or heating.

You will pass the en-suite facility's to your left, that are complete with flushing toilet and 2 taps dispensing hot and cold running water. If you are gonna do anything that needs a wipe, you had best bring your own roll. Going home with only one sock, is not cool!!

Climbing the metal staircase to the club room, you will notice many large dusty cobwebs decorating the bare brick walls. Many of the spiders that live within these cobwebs are G-Slot's are members! This decor is seen throughout the building, but is more noticeable just here, as the strobing light plays it's trickery with every upward step you take.

At the top of the stairs, you are greeted by the stale smell of tobacco.

The rooms are tastefully furnished with mismatched pieces of 30yr old, threadbare carpets. There's no expense paid to make it a comfortable racing environment!

It is freezing in the winter, and roasting in the summer, but enough of my enticement, let's focus on the important stuff.....

Hi Alan,

You will be made most welcome.

Now you need to know that most of our members have a good if quirky sense of humour.

The premises are not "Park Lane", but then very few are !!.

Yes, there is a cobweb, and before we changed the tube, the stairwell light did flicker,

we do have heating, and toilet paper !!.

But come and see for yourself.

vbr Chris A.

ps: If you can get to Harworth, I could take you across.
