Watched Pulp Fiction (again) the other night and on seeing the slot racing track it got me thinking as to whether there were any other sightings of our favourite hobby on the silver screen.

I've seen the Aussie film, starring Anthony Hopkins, which actually has slots as a major part of the plot! But I can't remember the name of it! And I remember going to see Casino Royale at the cinema-I would have been around 8 then- and have vague recollections that there was some sort of track involved, including a slot milk float!

Any others to look out for? As we've got a very global nature on the board, it's probably best to stay with film, Alan Turner getting his old Scalextric out on Emmerdale wouldn't really mean much across the pond, I suspect

The music video for "Stuck In a Groove" by "Puretone" involved a car chase where a woman goes to take back a silver metal case. The case is opened at the end of the video, inside sits a Ninco Mini!

I read that the first Alien film used Scalextric to power the Alien creature as it ran away after exiting John Hurt. Imagine racing them at the club? Make a cracking race class!! Mind you we already have an alien or two racing at ours!!

Heres two:

Film:

"Slapshot" starring Paul Newman, 1977

Film about a minor professional league hockey team. Features the Hansen Brothers (classic hockey 'goon' types) who happen to travel with a figure 8 slot car track and set it up on their bed on road trips - features in at least one scene - is it Strombecker? Eldon?

TV:

Recent Canadian Pontiac commercial used slot cars to demonstate the handling of their "wide track" Grand Am. Other car spins off, wide track Grand Am stays on around corners..

Maltese,

I think the film was called different things in different places, but The Consultant didn't ring any bells! So I did a very quick search and came up with two of it's titles on a Hopkins website;

Spotswood

or

Efficiency Expert

Made in 1991 but set in the early seventies, I saw it under the Spotswood heading, it boasts Russell Crowe amongst it's cast! So I have seen a Russell Crowe film after all!

In "Grand Prix", a '66 J.Frankenheimer film with Y.Montand and Eva Marie Saint, I saw a Scalextric Monza layout with some slot action, very short however.
