Slow page loading

For a while (I can't remember exactly how long) SFI has been very slow loading for me. I don't seem to have a problem with any of the other sites I visit.

Is anyone having the same problem? Is it a known issue?

a lot of it has to do with the profusion of ads now on this site. Particularly irritating are the ones that "frame" or even block out images. All of this dramatically slows down loads. I've gotten to the point where I think twice before opening a string which features members who are quite "image happy". Just takes too long to load while I also hit the little "x's" to close ad after ad. I should mention that my computer is also a dinosaur; perhaps those with the "latest and greatest" do not have these probs.
Years ago people used a dial-up internet connection and downloading pictures would really slow down the parade. Today I expect that everyone uses a much faster connection, so pictures are much less of a problem. When you go to a page with pictures those would go into your cache and anytime that you went back to the page you would not have ton download them again. If you had your browser set to clear out the cache whenever you closed it down that would not be the case. I expect that the problem is due to ads that are slow to load. Some ads are targeted based on things that you have viewed in the past and those are going to be slow loading for sure. You may be able to alter your browser settings to block ads of that sort.

Use and ad blocker. I see no adverts at all, I reckon by paying for Plus membership, I shouldn't have to put up with them. The pages load quite quickly although there is more delay since Google got involved, hopefully, all my protective progs tell them to sod off.
Ads are a fact of internet life - if you want free access to it then install an ad-blocker or put up with them and stop moaning.

My loading speed is absolutely fine, same as every other place I visit and no, I don't get any special treatment because I am a mod! My ad-blocker helps but doesn't make an enormous difference to loading speed on this site.
I have noticed in the last week or so, that about every fourth click can produce slow loading pages. Hit the back button and load again and nine times out of ten it loads instantly. Only on this site, too.

Does that sound like the problem you are having, Stuart?

I'm quite prepared to accept that it could be a problem my end, but thought I would add some input.

Certainly similar. I've disabled my ad-blocker on this site, and I implemented some advice I was given by another member of The Team, but neither made much - if any - difference.

Been in France for the past three weeks all good here as fast as at home.

Slow to load and doesn't always load the whole enchilada (thread) just a couple of entries at the top and then just sits there, spinning and doing... nothing.

Currently I can't load anything beyond the first two entries of this one - https://www.slotforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=184869 and that's after some refreshing, some Control refreshing, and some refreshing coffee.

Mine loads fine, not like the old days when it was very slow!

Cant say that I have noticed any ads.

Regards, Lloyd.
Just used my test account which replicates members settings and eliminates any admin extra facilities. Also logged out and used as a guest. No problem with page loading whatsoever so almost certainly a problem your end Peter. Try clearing your cache.
I'm not just seeing slow loading but also stalling. Happens on my MacBook Pro and on my mobile device.

It is quite often tied to some add page getting hung up. Now interestingly I'm using AdBlock so don't see the ads but a quick check at the bottom left of Chrome will indicate that something has hung.

Cheers

Nope. Cleared the cache, disabled Adblock and set phasers to Stun but it makes no odds.

To be clear, and because I wasn't, I'm getting 'stalling'; part of a page loads and then the rest just doesn't get with the programme and join in. Randomly.

Interestingly, when I looked just now, Chrome said it was "Waiting for fundingchoices.google.com". That sounds suspiciously like it's connected to my other hobby: opting out of every fecking ad scheme I can, whenever I'm asked. Gotta love the GDPR-enabled websites.

But I only get the stall here, on Slotforum.

I am getting this too in the last few days with the same message at the bottom of the page. One trick which works sometimes is to double click the selection and it will load the page.

I say this with some trepidation, but it hasn't happened to me at all today.

Nothing changed my end, so I suspect something may have been fixed.

One night last week I couldn't get on at all and was being given an "SQL database error" warning. Whether that has any relevance I have no clue.

Has anybody else who was experiencing the slow load issue noticed an improvement?
Not particularly slow but I still get random effects. Usually when looking at recent posts, it only draws the first couple. Try again and it shows them all but usually cuts off the bottom section where it gives you the choice of page so I have to go to the top to choose. Similarly, when I click on the last poster on a thread, it won't go to the post in question but cuts off on the 29th September. I then try again and it all shows.

I have said before that it is only this site and only since the change to Google. Every other place I visit behaves totally normally so I don't believe it's anything wrong with the way my system is set up just and curious interaction with this forum.

This is the case with every browser I try. I even downloaded a couple I hadn't tried before but the strangeness continues. It's something that I've got used to now but occasionally it makes my eyebrows pucker.

Still the same for me.

This ^^^ is pretty-much the same as I'm (still) getting.
This appears to be random. I've had no problems at all for a few days now and everything has worked normally.

I assumed that someone had been playing with it but maybe not. Perhaps Douglas Adams is to blame, at least I haven't had a whale land on me. He had a Mac too.
I've been looking into this, but no matter what I do, I can't replicate the problem, and I can't find anything that might be causing it. I don't think anybody else has been doing anything.

Maybe try a different theme?
