Well, there is absolutely no point to this....but when I look at all the new releases that I keep drooling over I'm just wondering how many cars ppl buy each month.....cos it seems to me the list of "wants" just keeps increasing and I can't catch up !

I voted for between 1-2, blimey so who are the two that buys over 10 a month
,

I could finnancily(sp!!!) afford to buy more than 1 or 2 a month, but I think I would lose the very little self control I have left!!!!! so I do try to limit it to a few a month only,

Hi

How many cars do you buy is a matter of money. Some of us has more and some of use don't. How many hours you spend on and around your cars and track tells me a lot more about a real addiction to slot. Buying every month 10 cars in 1 hour is not an addiction to slot. Having fun every night for five hours with the same two cars looks more to a real addiction!

That's it I have to race............

It's not just all about money.

I have bought over twenty very collectable cars last week alone!

However they only cost me £2.00 each!

Main reason for me buying more is swapmeets! I have to take a limited amount of cash with me which works until someone says they take credit cards!!!!! (or Scott loans me more!)

That said (apart from new releases) my wants list gets shorter with every purchase, so it will reduce this year. (hopefully!)

I've voted (honestly) 1 or 2 a month. But if I had the money it would definitely be a different story, but I can't (or won't) justify the extra at the moment. The wish list gets longer but one of these days...........
And the hours.......!
Even getting my 3-year old daughter hooked now. (She loves the Ninco pace car with the flashing roof lights!)

Looks as though like me you do a lot of work at nite too grah! 01.21 Hours. Who says us old guys need our sleep!

I liked Gerards point earlier though not to stray too much. The addiction spreads further than cars. With me it started with a set like many, then a scenic track on me bedroom wall, tinkering with cars, collecting, home racing, club racing , building up SRA, joining a club and now running Phoenix. Hours per week spent on Slot? Well aside from SF and sleeping and walking the beast in the woods each day I`d say 80 hours per week. Oh yes ...addicted to slot

Its all my wifes fault after a couple of years away from slots although I still had a lot of my stuff stashed she said what do you want for your birthday ,I said a scalextric that was 20 odd yrs ago and it got me back into slots big time ,but she was probably secretly pleased it got me off the Harley she always hated bikes,I never have really stopped messing with slots since starting aged 6 as any oppertunity to set up a race meet in the pub /motorclub/ at work has always been exploited

How addicted ?

Totally!

QUOTE (Mecoprop @ 21 Jan 2004, 04:11 PM)A quick suggestion before it's too late, Muffin

Rejig the categories so no number is repeated in more than 1 category!
Oooops, well spotted.........tbh I started the thread in a rush as I was on my way out. I'm kinda getting more addicted by the day and I started the poll because I have a list of wants, as I get one it gets crossed off and new wants get added to the bottom.....................and at the moment I'm gonna need a bigger pad of paper

Anyway....if my 6 numbers come up I can cross em all off me list

Nice one slotracoon

Seriously though it is down to money as Racebaan says when you first get addicted, but eventually I guess it comes down to space after a while as well. Over 50 new Scalextric cars this year alone that we know about if you collect them all, without anything from anyone else. Where are they all going to go?
I think we have started to see the effects of this space issue as more so called collections are starting to be thinned out to make room for new cars?, or so IMHO it appears on epay. I think Fly will suffer the most here, but this issue is being discussed in another thread.
The only problem I see here is for retailers, as this means there will have to be more discounted cars in the long run, where stock does not get shifted as the growth in the number of cars produced is outstripping the growth in this hobby I would say now. For those prepared to wait for the right moment this will mean we will probably end up buying more cars with our money and thus get more addicted. Result = even less space but maybe miss out on the odd car!
Anyway just my theory.

I clicked 3 to 6, but my first two months back into slots it has been nearer 6 per month or more, but I am hopeful that I can keep it nearer 3 for the rest of the year. However at that rate my "want list" can only keep getting bigger and bigger.

Personally varies from month to month, some weeks purchase brand new cars, other weeks (especially when budgeting) specifically purchase second hand (cheap) cars or accessories.

On average 1-2 cars a week, however this amount often changes and usually dependednt on the time of year, swapmeets, holiday periods etc.

I think a strong indication of the level of interest can be measured by the amount of time spent carrying out any slotcar related stuff. Whether browsing, racing, reading & modelling etc - not just the amount of purchases alone.

The hobby is expensive & addictive collecting the latest products alone, it's best to avoid the classic stuff...
