So.. why can I not captialize "John"?

I remain puzzled by this one. The forum refuses any entry that is ALL CAPS for "John" and reprints it as "John".

Even when I wrap it in the Code tags, which forum spellcheckers & suchlike should never mess with.

So, why is this? Other names have been just fine. What is it about John?

Small glitch in the forum word/spelling filters. All fixed now - JOHN.
Good on you, JOHN.
Interesting glitch, but just out of curiosity, why would you want to capitalize JOHN?

(background: in France, they write people's names as John SMITH, so I'm always explaining to my customers that in the anglo-saxon world we write the family names in lower case with a first capital. Not of capital importance, but interesting to see the small differences in typography, layout, etc.)
Round here it's always STEADMAN Gordon.

Many of my bills come in addressed to M.GORDON as I automatically put my Christian name first of course!
Fighting 1 year to get "UDoKuoio" on Facebook, with "U", "D" and "K" uppercase.

...once achieved it, I left interest for FB...
Capitalisation is the difference between helping your uncle Jack off a horse or not ......

Case In point, I noticed in my Meccano Magazine content lists.

You know: sailing along, and you eye spots the 'John' in the mess of all-caps, and you presume your fingers fumbled it. Then it shows again on the corrected upload, so you slow down further and try again. Then you get curious, and start playing with the editor to try to figure it out, and I never did get it.

Plenty of other names in there. 'Peter' worked, and it's similarly biblicaly, so I guessed it wasn't about names in general, but couldn't puzzle it further.

SPEAKING OF CONVENTIONS - once in a while in 40s wartime reports I've found the first mention of a person has the name fully captialized, then normal treatment thereafter. Very useful for spotting where somebody shows up in a story, and for emphasizing the spelling of their name. Typewriter reports aren't the cleanest. And the convention was probably even more useful in handwritten originals.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this more often, and have wondered if it's more common in some academic or industrial or language culture.

I had the same problem help my uncle Jack and capitalisation ......

Uncle Jack and his horse were removed, no doubt, by an overly prim and humourless mod.

It's a peril of the internet, where the advent of the role of moderator has granted too much power to those who wouldn't ordinarily command it.

I thought that Uncle Jack's anecdote was very funny, though, probably like everyone else fortunate enough to see it before it vanished.

Elton JOHN.

Otto JOHN.

Dear JOHN.

I need to lie down now, though. I googled "helping Uncle Jack" and was traumatised by the result. If only Google had moderators as diligent as SlotForum's...

I just checked the hidden post and agree with it being hidden.
Not something younger members or readers need see, and although humorous it is rather beastial in nature.
Also diligent with lots of power
