Just lazily skimming thru some newsreel clips on the British Pathe site, thought I'd share a few.

Late 60's Carrera event in Frankfurt:

Curious about this one as currently living in Toronto - Where was that large commercial track ?

And this is possibly the most interesting one given the date 1950; anyone out there know anything else about this track system ? Was it a one off or commercially available ? Cute little cars - what are they ?

There's some other slot stuff, some rail racing, and misc other hobby / model making clips up there also...

Very interesting Simon, thanks for posting!

Not sure about that Italian one... there were actually a couple systems like this at the time, with information slowly emerging now, including at fairgrounds, etc. Probably a one-off, unless they made a couple more in Italy.

That banked track in Toronto is definitely something!

Hi

The Rome track is particularly interesting. The cars seem to have rear pegs .. not quite clear if they can actually exit the circuit!

thanks for finding these! Great stuff!!

all my very best,

Just came across this video as well of the North London Model engineering society from the 1950's. The narrator refers to a "junior" could that perhaps be a young John Sechhi?

Jagman, thanks much for posting that clip from Czechoslovakia.

I'm in contact with Jaroslav Broz, who was a Czech slot racer in the 60s, then emigrated to the USA, where he wrote some articles for Car Model magazine and worked as an engineer for racing teams. He recognized people in the clip - including himself!
