At Eastcote we race a class called Sports & GT, but really it should be called Ninco Mercedes CLK Racing. That's the only car everyone uses!

Let me clarify the rules a bit: Cars and all parts must be made by Ninco, Fly, Scalextric or SCX. Eligable motors are: Everything made by the above four except NC6, NC4 and Fly Racing (little) motor. No alloy parts to be used, and no Fly Racing cars are allowed. No cutting of chassis allowed. No weight. No mags. So rules are pretty basic, not too much modifications.
The track is a 130 foot, 8 lane Ninco, with medium to good grip.

As I said, the current favourite is the Ninco CLK with an NC5 and pretty much standard otherwise, but I want to be a bit different. I've tried all Ninco GT cars and the CLK is the best out of them. I've also tried an SCX Audi R8, and a few old Scalextric cars and nothing measures up. I've also thought about Fly cars, but they are generally rubbish without the mags.

So I ask you, what do you think would be a good car to try?

I'm thinking about a Fly Lola (standard one) without the magnet, and I've set up a Joest Porsche that I remember used to be good (because of low overhangs and all...) so I'll try that too.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any ideas you've got.

PS. I have an ickle bit of sway over the rules as I'm a scrutineer, so for example including a fifth constructor, or other minor changes might be able to be suggested.

I have a Ninco track and I drive my cars without any magnet : my Ninco CLK has always been my fastest car ... but when I was running without adding weight, my Ninco BMW M3 GTR was very close to the CLK : it could be the choice ...

How about the SCX Cadillac or Dome, and the Fly Panoz has a lot of potential,
or you could try the Ninco Callaway.

If you get away with it how about a Chevron, great cars on the twisty bits without the aid of a magnet.

I generaly use the proslot gt 3 with a 25 balanced v12 ,Mick lord uses a fly lola with a 29 v12 not a lot between them the porsche has a bit more grip ,the lola is faster on the straights ,
The porsche is better at pendle and the lola wins at preston horses for corsas
Nick Hirst drives any thing and still beats us both

So you reckon the Fly Lola is a possibility then?

I'll try, but my two are race prepared. One is 25k and a mag, and the other is NC3.

Might buy another chassis tho...

I can see that Nuro is reading this, so sorry for the bump!

Cheers for the info guys, keep it coming...

............. Fly Lola is a good choice, I run one @ Molesey and my home Ninco track. Set-up; The front screw heads need a bit of filing cause when you loosen them for body rock they hit the track. I find just enough so you can see the Philip's head, once done put tape over the holes to stop them falling out. SCX Dome is good and the Proslot Porsche 911 with Ninco sprung guide works very well, Proslot Toyota is another fav. Just set-up my Spirit: Reynard 2KQ that works and another is the Scaley Lola just take all but the front and rear screws out and if your club rules allow hard wire a Ninco guide in place of the vertically challenged blue thing!

QUOTE (Swissracer @ 20 Apr 2004, 14:05)MARCOS LM 600

Marcos (and any avant) without magnet and weight???

I imagine you're joking; Fly avants are simply undrivable without magnet...

If weight were allowed I'd suggest the Joest Porsche, but it really need some lead behind the guide, as per every SW; IMHO, without adding weight it is better to use an in line motor. What about the not-racing version of Fly Saleen?

I am all for magnetless racing but, as almost all cars are designed to have magnetic downforce, it is the absolute height of folly to then forbid completely the addition of weight to provide sensible balance to a car that no longer possesses any semblance of decent road holding, except by pure good chance!
It is pure futility.

I think you will find that Ninco cars are designed to run mag-less and then a mag is put in for home drivers. Same case with Slot.It.

Anyway, folly it may be... but I need more suggestions. Will report back on Joest findings.

You could try the Ninco Porsche 911 GT1. I have found it to be the quickest NC1 engined Ninco I have and with the same long weighty tail body style as a CLK GTR it would run just as well with the Ninco boxer motor mount and NC5 motor.

Your circuit is the same type as ours where the CLk does seem to be the best Ninco though I think a Porsche is close and so is the Maclaren.

Like Grah I like the PS GT2 and GT3 cars with Evo 2 or 3 they do go well. Other popular cars at ours are the PS Toyota GT 1 and the Slot It Audi, though not the Porsche 956.

I agreee that Ninco cars run great without magnet and do not need weight added at all, in fact it`s against our rules. The issue about cars from other manufacturers being made to run with magnets is very true and the search is always on for the car that will also run well without mag, hence your original question I figure?
