I'm about to plunk down on a Scalex Start set or a Standard analog set for my kids. From what I've read, there's a significant quality upgrade when going from the Start range and into the Standard. However, I like the speed-restricted controllers in the Start range. Are the Start controllers available separately and will they plug into a Standard set?

Or can I modify a Standard controller? From the looks of it, I expect that I could drill a hole(s) in the trigger and insert a piece of coat hanger or perhaps some adhesive foam toward the middle of the trigger.

You could always open up a standard contoller and put some electric tape over the contacts. I have not done this but it seems feasible. Come to think of it I will go grab a standard contoller and open it up to see, be back in a moment.

I just looked. I don't know if it gets to hot for electrical tape on the contact area. But it looks as if you could cover half or more and limit throttle response until they get the hang of it. If you are just as interested as the kids. You could go full bore and pick up a digital set with the new powerbase. This limits throttle by computer, for lack of better terms, control and works great. my girls have been racing with me from 4years old n up. The younger one actually gets the control better than the older one. All the older one wants to do is go as fast as possible and press the track call or run you off. You in the states or else where?

Double,

I'm a Yankee doodle dandy living in Los Angeles. What gave me away?

Thanks for the tip. My dealer gave me an extra Standard controller. I'll take it apart and see what there is to see.

Incidentally, I went with the C1191T set, which is the retired(?) Audi TTs on an oval. I got some good advice to avoid the crossover figure 8s if I wasn't OK with constant crashing by young kids.

Just asking. I have some unused stuff hangin round that could use a good home. 2 standard controllers and power base/pack. some digital stuff also, but shipping abroad is getting expensive. If you need other or different answers there is one other site that seems to be inhabited by more of us Yanks. But I'm sure they are all represented on this site as well. I happen to be addicted to both.
