Special Night for February - Touring Cars!

After the Group B Rally Challenge, Farnham Scalextric Club is delighted to announce its second Special Night for 2018 - open to all who wish to enter. The theme is touring cars around the world, and offers six classes of racing of which four are for our own cars and two are for lane cars provided on the night. We race crash'n'burn format so the only marshalling is to remove de-slotted cars and the brakes will be off on the Club Track.

The event will be recorded and used by the British Touring Car Championship press office for social media content and we may well have a few faces from the BTCC paddock on hand. Come what may, all the classes promise some proper fast and furious tin-top racing.

Class 1 - Touring Car Masters: Sprint Race (10 lap heats)

RTR Scalextric-type models representing cars to have participated in international touring car events from 1958-1980. Cars must use their original hard body with matching plastic chassis and motors. Race liveries not rally liveries and only one driver figure. Magnets must be removed and weight placed inside the chassis but no other modifications permitted. Tyres may be changed for alternative rubber but OEM wheels must be retained.

  • Carrera - Ford Capri RS3100, Opel GT
  • Fly - Alfa Romeo GTA/GTV
  • Gom - Alfa Romeo GTV6
  • Pioneer - Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang
  • Revell/Monogram - Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Galaxie, Lotus Cortina, Mercedes-Benz 200
  • Scalextric - AMC Javelin, BMC Mini-Cooper, Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger, Ford Capri 3.0S, Ford Escort RS1600 MkI, Ford Escort XR3i, Ford Falcon, Ford Mustang, Holden Torana, Lotus Cortina, Mercury Cougar, Mini Clubman, Mini Metro (NOT 6R4), Rover 3500 SD1, VW Beetle
  • SCX - Abarth 600TC, BMC Mini-Cooper, Plymouth Hemi Cuda, Renault 8TS
  • SRC - Ford Capri RS2600 (standard models only NOT the Chrono/OSC tuned version)
  • Vulcan Slot - BMW 3.0 CSL, Ford Escort RS1600 Mk.I

Class 2 - Super Sierras: Sprint Race (10 lap heats)

Lane car class for Scalextric Ford Sierra RS500 models that will be provided.

Class 3 - Supertouring Masters: Sprint Race (10 lap heats)

Farnham SCC class for Scalextric Super Touring cars produced from 1995-2002, standard with brown bar magnets in place. Tyres may be changed for alternative rubber but OEM wheels must be retained.

· Alfa Romeo 155

· Audi A4

· BMW 318i/320i

· Ford Mondeo

· Renault Laguna

· Vauxhall Vectra

Class 4 - V8 Supercars: Sprint Race (10 lap heats)

Lane car class for Scalextric V8 Supercar models of the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore 2001-2017 that will be provided.

Class 5 - Modern DTM: Sprint Race (10 lap heats)

Any SCX or Carrera DTM car covering the period 2012-2017 to the current existing regulations of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. Magnets must be removed and weight placed inside the chassis but no other modifications permitted. Tyres may be changed for alternative rubber but OEM wheels must be retained. Permitted bodies are:

· Audi A5

· BMW M3/M4

· Mercedes-Benz C-Coupe

Class 6 - Modern BTCC: Feature Race (20 lap heats)

Any current NGTC touring car made by Scalextric and competing in the British Touring Car Championship 2014-present. Magnets must be removed and weight placed inside the chassis but no other modifications permitted. Tyres may be changed for alternative rubber but OEM wheels must be retained. Permitted bodies are:

· BMW 125

· Honda Civic

· MG6

· Volkswagen Passat

Following some discussion among FSC members, the following amendments have been made to the regs for Touring Car Legends:

REG UPDATE 1:

Any guide blade may be fitted provided that no modification to the chassis is required for doing so.

REG UPDATE 2:

Spirit BMW 2002 is eligible for Touring Car Legends class, provided that it is in an appropriate touring car livery without a co-driver figure.

REG UPDATE 3:

Scalextric 'Superslix' BMW 3.5 CSL is permitted in the Touring Car Legends class but the Fly BMW 3.5 CSL in Group 5 trim is not. No models of Group 5 cars will be allowed to take the start.

Carrera Alfa Romeo GTam and BMW 2002, and the Revell Simca 1000 are eligible for Touring Car Legends class.

Some of the roads were impassable tonight so the touring cars will run next Wednesday. Update post here.

5 of us managed to get there, thickest bit of snow was 5mm..lol
We had a test evening and ran 4 of the Touring Car Classes and few club lane car classes too. :thumbsup:

Blighters wouldn't let me run mine tonight. Probably after they saw it run!

Still preferred to run the Abarth anyway.

If this does happen again (hopefully not) , could the call to cancel come a little sooner. I did expect it might happen and checked my e-mails at 7.30. I need to leave by then to be certain of being there by 8.

Sorry about that Jim. I was rather caught out myself as I switched the computer off at 7.30 thinking Graham would be here any minute. Then I waited. And waited. When I checked emails again it was about 10 mins before start time.

You brought a Spirit? What about the chance to run an SCX Fiat 600?!

An SCX 600 would be masochistic. An SCX Abarth 1000TC however, is just what I did run.

And am looking forward to doing next week.

Shame about the Aussie V8s, I've never had the chance to run one so was looking forward to it. Plus it was another lane car class which seems to be my forte.

Always good to see you Jim and it turned out all right in the end! Hopefully there will be a chance to run the V8s again before too long.

After all the to-ing and fro-ing about eligibility for the Touring Car Masters, here's what everyone ran:

Gareth: Scalextric '69 Camaro

Dale: Carrera BMW 2002Ti (worn the Dremel out on that one)

Simon: SRC Capri RS2600 and Scalextric Mustang BOSS

Nick: Scalextric Holden Torana (2 points in 2 races... abort!) and Scalextric '70 Camaro (7 points in 2 races... and relax!)

Graham: Scalextric '70 Camaro

Jim: SCX SEAT 1000TC (flying flea - a pleasure to watch)

Chris: Scalextric '69 Camaro

Ben: Scalextric Mini-Cooper (Johnson motor)

Simon M: Scalextric '69 Camaro

Shaun: Scalextric '69 Camaro

The Torana was amazing... in a straight line. Not as hard to get round the corners as I'd been led to believe (once the front tyres were removed!), but impossible to get round the corners anything like the sort of vigour needed at racing speed.

Ps, the 2002 only had very minor dremel work to the wheel arches to accommodate the new tires. The body rock was achieved by putting it in the oven and stretching the body out...lol

We'll run the E30 M3s instead of the Sierras next time, Dale. Or even M3s vs. RS500s, as nature intended.

I know that our brethren and lady-brethren Down Under run all sorts of events for the V8s so once they're prepped for our track they should be good value. Not financially, of course. But still they're the best touring cars in the world in real life so it's a shame we couldn't let rip.

I thought that little Carrera BMW did very well for itself, though. Nice to run things a bit different to the norm.

Sounds good to me Nick, I'm always up for something different, Iv not got any of the E30s so interested to see how they go :thumbsup:

The Carrera did do well bless her, it actually stays in the slot better than my Spirit 2002, and it's got a reasonable amount of poke too. I do fear it'll spend many years on the shelf now though..lol
