Hi guys,

This may be a really stupid question (one of my specialisms) but does anyone know anything about comissioning untampoed cars (from Scalex)? Is it possible? Are there minimum orders? I guess it must be possible as I have some old Scoobys, Corollas and some sort of F1 in plain white, But do they still do it?

Just ignore me if I am being dense...

Cheers.

Most makers will do a plain version car minimum orders Jexy1 on this forum gets them for the slot rally and Slot32 did a 250 run of moslers from Ninco, you could get in touch with either of them for more info, but be prepared for a considerable outlay.

Hi Phil

As Zen mentioned i have managed to arrange a few limited edition runs for various events and clubs - including Slotforum (50 SCX Cudas), NSCC (500 SCX Skodas & 50 Teamslot Toyota Celica), SlotrallyGB (50 Teamslot Lancia Stratos & 50 Teamslot Lancia Delta).

To be honest it can be really difficult, time consuming and frustrating.

The bigger manufacturers (Scalextric and SCX) will want a run of around 3000 - 5000 cars and then only if they can fit it into their schedules. It doesn't really make any difference if you are after plain untampoed car either. With Rob Smith i also managed to buy a number of plain white Scalextric Subaru's and IRL's (not directly from Hornby).

Smaller manufacturers are more flexible, but even then will only really help if they are directly involved in the event or championship.

To be fair, in recent years some of the Spanish companies (like Ninco) have been much more flexible for short runs (i guess due to the current financial situation).

Ultimately it comes down to how good a relationship you have with a manufacturer, how many you want, how much you are willing to pay and for what purpose.

I think the easiest, but less desirable option, is to buy a number of existing cars in bulk and have them tampo printed after market (like the recent NSCC swapmeet Scalextric Ferrari). From a collecting perspective these are not as popular but much much easier.

Any approach from an individual will be tricky, you really need a club, organisation, retailer or event behind you to back up your request.

Good luck!

What is it you wanted the cars for?

I've seen a few white kits for sale on fleabay but these are odd ones and well above the usual price due to rarity., you could always strip the paint and tampos yourself.

Jexy1, thanks for the info, I wonder if that's where mine originated?

Mr M, it's not to me, my verbosity knows no bounds

Wraith, I was after some of the Aussie Holden's and Falcon's to convert to Police examples which is why white would be ideal. I was thinking that I might offset the number needed by seeing if there were people who wanted to make up their grids with cars not available comercially.

3000 is way out of my league though. So if anyone knows where I might buy up some Holdens and Falcons on the cheap then I guess I will have to go Full Monty on them. Geddit?

Phil, those V8SCs are already 'special orders' anyway. The are ordered by a local Aussie supplier and produced by Scaley. Part of the reason for the whole limited availabity thing.

Hi Embs,

Wow. So basically, its unlikely I can pick a few up for re-livery? I have just arrived in New Zealand and fancied a quick project to add to my other Police vehicles. Any idea where the best place to look would be?

Cheers

For the V8SCs? The usual online suppliers or eBay. Thunderbird Slot Raceway in Adelaide, Armchair Racer in Sydney (I can't post links for them as they're not forum sponsors), Slot Shop, Melbourne Model Raceway and Mobile Raceway in Melbourne, Slot Race Shop in Napier (?). Google them. Ebay sometimes has them really cheaply, but as with everything you have to bide your time. Scaley tampo is easy enough to remove with a soak in metho and a toothbrush. The biggest problem with the V8SC is the low detail/high impact nature they don't strip down completely to individual components. Single piece body with black windows.

Thanks Ember. Yeah, I meant the V8SC's. Have been slowly learning how Trade me differs from Ebay... The nature of the police cars from Scaley means the ld/hi won't be too much of a prob as I am just getting away from 'box fresh' cars. Have just finished my first resin kit from Teamslot, a kit bash from Arii and am halfway ish through an avenger from 1/32nd. Any ideas on where I might go for digital track with PC connectivity for a circuit like the Top Gear set in this hemisphere?

Don't know whether this helps but George Turner Models (.com) has a vintage falcon resin model. Might be worth a look but no goo if you want modern models.

If you're in NZ Phil, you'd probably do well to chat to one of the kiwi lads that hang out here. Where abouts in NZ are you based?

There are quite a few Kiwi lads on here. I think MIH is the local digi expert. Munter, SlotmadMac, Slotcrazy, just to name a few, are analogue wooden track guys. There are lots of them around, just got to find them.

Many thanks.

Hi Phil,

You are welcome.

Just came across an old thread in Scratchbuilding and there's an Aussie company making resin Aussie muscle cars - didn't know if you were aware of them - take a look at http://tassie-resins.webs.com/aussiemusclecarbodies.htm

Hi Phil,

You are most welcome.

I haven't been on SlotForum for that long and everybody is really, really helpful. I love it! I am just glad I can give something back. Enjoy your Aussie Muscle cars!

Thanks Embs. It's seems much less cheeky if I can say 'Hi Ember suggested...' as I guess some members must get LOTS of PMs.

I've found that too. Makes things much easier, especially as I am newly emigrated and trying to find my way around! Thanks again. Phil
