I'm a huge VW fan (like you'd never guess

) so I was really happy when this car came out, but it's handling has meant it's stayed in it's box most of the time, even after I'd de-motored it.

So as you may have seen on my Polo/205 T16 Hybrid thread, I had some time to indulge in some flights of fancy on the drive home from the Wye Valley rally yesterday...

I reckon this will be my PCS scratch build entry in June then:

It was a fairly simple conversion;

I narrowed the PCS and cut off the rear mounting lip to fit inside the body, however I still had to cut a section out of the rear valence.
I then cut the rear body posts off, shortened them and hot glued them to the interior tray. The front body post was then cut off and discarded and a new one made from a plastic lolly stick hot glued in place. This was a mistake though, as the bonnet has very slightly warped with the heat!
(That'll teach me to just wait till the next day when I'll have some epoxy, but I was on a roll...most of my cars take months to finish, and I've got two done today).

I originally used the Golf's axles and wheels, but while testing I found that I wanted to try some different tyres that wouldn't fit on the Golf's rims.

Personally I like the way it looks on the 205's wheels, so they're staying on.

Right, what can I get done tomorrow?

DJ.

It was that bad (for me) and yes it probably could have been modded, but following the Rally regs, that would put the car in the modified class up against the likes of the Avant Slot 207, SCX Xsara Pro etc... which it would still be hopeless against.

In the regs there's a a scratchbuilt class using the PCS chassis and, as I really like VW's (I've competed 1:1 in a variety of Polo's), so 2+2= this car.

I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to make the original car work on wood, but this is now fast, balanced and overall fun. All of which it wasn't in it's original form, err..apart from the fast that is, originally this had the 24k Le Mans motor in it, which is way too much for this car.

ZITAT(DJ @ 2 Nov 2009, 23:36) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Was it really that bad? And why is the PCS so much better?
I have the Kamei version but haven't had chance to run it yet.
Could it not have been tuned rather than chassis swapped?

Cheers

Hallo DJ,

i think the original Chassis is good, there are some other thing to do. Look at this thread and you can see, what i did with the white street one and a bit lower, what i did with the Kamei

Thanks Stu, I have no track at the moment so no chance to run the Golf, I just keep looking at it and admiring it's good looks.
If yours is competitive against the like of the Avant Slot and Xsara you'll have done a good job.

Bernd,
Thanks for the link, that is one thread that I have somehow missed, your white Golf looks very, very nice indeed. When I eventually run the Golf and find out it's not so good I'll have another look at what you did. Even with all the exotic supercars that are out there the Mk1 Golf is still one of my all time favourite cars and, although I've never owned a 1:1, I just had to have a slot version.

Many thanks
