SRS Ferrari, not seen one before...

Hello, Just acquired a couple (more!!) Scalextric SRS cars and one of which I cannot find any reference to anywhere, It appears to be a Ferrari and is in plain red. It has the later SRS 1 chassis with the black can motor. Can anyone let me know more? Thanks.

I don't recall any SRS1 Ferrari other than the F1 car. Could it be a different manufacturer's body adapted to fit?

That would be my guess, as we know, collectors in Spain are quite knowledgeable, if the F40 was by SCX, we would know about it.
Either that, or it is the rarest of the rare and worth a mint, on par with the Carrera P4.

Its not in my book 40 anos de scalextric en Espana
There are a lot of SRS though. Most didn't make it over to the UK. The only ferrari that I can see in the book is the F1.
Interesting that they did a Porsche 944, renault 5 turbo, Lola T298, Lanci Beta Montecarlo, Talbot Horizon, Porsche 956 and 962, Lotuts F1 Camel, Mercedes group C, Jaguar Silk Cut XJR9
As well as the 6 that came to the UK, F1 Ferrari and McLaren, saloon Mercedes 190E and Peugeot 205 Turbo rally, Group C Lancia LC2 and Porsche 956, all of which I've got.
The nicest one of the lot (imho) is the Camel Lotus. The Mercedes in AEG colours looks nice, but the front wheels look silly.

The only ones I didn't bother with are the two F1 SRS, SRS 1 were an interesting departure at the time and certainly on a home track went like ****.
The second plain colour bodyshells are the most difficult to get, like yellow 956, red LC1 and green Jag.
First one I ever had was the canon 924 Carrera GT, think my favourite is the Marlboro Lola.
I remember being deeply frustrated on annual holidays to Menorca when I was allowed to buy one thing to bring home which was inevitably a Spanish Scalextric car - so detailed! so exotic!

The SRS cars looked great in their boxes when viewed from the top. Dad took one out of its box to inspect it and was so appalled by the wheels and the bodywork that he forbade me from ever mentioning them again. Standard issue Rothmans Lancia 037 it was, then...

To be honest, most of the Scx-Exin, Scalextric, Tri ang and Polistil slot cars from the past, are pretty fugly (don’t kill me but it’s true) and totally lack of performance, it’s was till Fly that they became more detailed and Ninco just gave birth to modern competition in slot cars, Imho.
You couldn't race SRS against anything else, they were orders of magnitude faster than any standard car.

Always found the c46 917K, C41 Ferrari GT/P3 from Spain to go very well on home track back in the seventies due to their low centre of gravity and flat underpan, the Porsche was a good representation of the real thing as well.

Love those...
I remember them as really quick although fairly fragile and very ugly.
SRS 2 were interesting as well, the Peugeot,Volvo, XJR 14 and Mazda 787B were pretty accurate models and it was nice to have something as left field as the brick, mine is the red one that raced down under.
That car is not a Exin SRS bodyshell. The only SRS Ferrari Exin made was the F1 156-85.

SRS 1 were ugly but fast. They were designed focusing only on performance. Bodies are made of lexan so they obviously have no details at all.

Regular Exin cars have much more detail and perform quite well on track (taking into account they include no magnets).

Compare for example an Exin Ferrari F1-87 with any Hornby F1, it's much better in any aspect.

Not sure why I earlier described it as an F40 when it is a Testa Rossa. (I plead insanity)

Thanks everyone for chipping in. On further checking I am convinced it is a third party body on an SRS chassis. Next question… how best to upgrade SRS 1 guide pin to something more effective (or should that be a new thread?).
