I have been having so much fun racing my RCS64 variable speed pace cars lately I thought I would upload a video showing how these cars perform on a complex track with a radius one hairpin turn and a corner crossover.

I often have a race with no crashes and would say they are at least 95% reliable, anyway I will let the vision speak for itself, I hope you enjoy (please excuse the messy garage it's in desperate need for its annual clean up).

The worst thing about these pace cars is they are damn hard to beat, as you will see in this video

, talk about being robbed on the line and this was definitely no setup!

Great! They have a lot of potential if you take time to set them up carefully. Well done. Btw you should have let the pacers pit too! Nice!

Hi Minardi, the pace cars did pit twice each, I have them set for a 7 second stop only which is the absolute quickest time I can do it, but I tend to average 10 to 12 seconds. This tends to even the race out as I have to make up for the shorter pace car pit stops with faster driving

I must be doing something very wrong when I try & set up pace cars!

A few questions

- Do you do any special prep on the pace cars before setting your pace lap.

- How hard are you "trying" when setting your pace lap.

It would be great if you could perhaps do a couple of videos showing

-how you set up a simple pace lap.

-& perhaps one more complex.

Anyway hope you carry on enjoying your racing.

I'm still trying to deal with that

, I honestly thought I had won when I crossed the line which was exciting seeing I had lost the previous 6 races prior to the one I filmed.

To answer your questions I provide the following;

1. When setting up a pace car I ensure the tyres and braids are clean and INOX used.
2. I try to get the pace car within 0.5 to 1.0 second of my best time but its not that important, the real secret is setting the sectors up after the recording is made, this takes time and a lot of trial and error but its worth it. If you figure out how to use the sectors (the manual is excellent) you will get it sorted.
3. If I get some time I will do a set up video but the local footy season is starting and that takes up a lot of time.

I think Phil is the best Pace Car set up guy for RCS64 on the forum!

I took his advice when setting up my pace cars, and they turned out well.

It does take a lot of time, and trial and error. Its not 10 minute tasks, and can become frustrating at times.

I have designated 2 main cars for pace cars only. I have magnets in them, the rest of my cars are magless.

This has helped me to get the pace cars to run a bit better.

Sometimes I have noticed a car will run differently cold vs warmed up. This sometimes affects the pacecar set up.

Good maintenance on the pacecars, and track is a must to keep them running properly.

GREAT pace car race!

If not for that deslot you might have been able to pull in for a splash and dash, catch back up, and just bring it into 1st on the last lap.

Thanks Mr Flippant, I think your right.

Just my luck I can programme pace cars to navigte that hairpin for 30 laps without crashing, but I can't drive a car round it myself without crashing

. Its amazing the extra pressure close side by side racing creates, not to mention staying on top of all the simulation data especially at the pointy end of the race. But that's what I love about digital racing

Hello Phil.

Which version of Windows are you using. I had RCS64 running on a Windows 7 laptop with very few issues.

As a lone racer I loved setting up Pace cars then racing against them.

I was able to race against 5 Pace cars with 3 hairpins with an occasional de-slot, but it did take a while to record each Pace car.

Upgraded to Windows 10 and still all good until laptop died.

Purchased a new Windows 10 laptop, installed RCS64 and have had problems since.

It will not save my registration key, no sounds play and I cannot save any Pace cars.

I've had a couple of computer techs have a look and they can't get it to work either.

I have installed a few versions of RCS64, saved on my desktop, but cannot get any to work.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling without success.

Has anyone else had issues running RCS64 on a Windows 10 laptop, and have they been resolved.

Either a windows permission issue as RCS isent allowed to save settings in application folder. Try run it as administrator.

Another idea is if you use a sign in your user name, like "&" or "#" Then windows is messing up the aplication folder path..

Hi Greg, I use Windows 7 on the SlotCar PC, I have no experience with Windows 10 so I hope Martin can help you with this.

I'm not likely to upgrade to Windows 10 either if it causes any RCS64 issues.

Hello Martin.

I tried running as administrator but it still did not save registration key.

The only symbol in my email address is "@"

I think I might have to look for another Windows 7 laptop.

windows 7 is obsolete - use windows 10

Try open the file browser and in the Adress type in

%appdata%

Check that this adress dont have a Sign.

Billy_Cart I assume you have no magnets undet the pace cars. I set my pace cars to about or a little better than me (only 0.1 or 0.2) per lap slower and even with a few R1's Desloting is rarely an issue with the pacers. If you put mags in you couldget closer raceing as you could allhave the same pit stop length. Having said that I have done fuel for me and not for the pacers so as I only have SSDC the pacers don't pit stops, so have to be slowed for my average pit stop(s).. Must admit I don't find it as much fun. Pacers with pit stops would be awsome. If SSDC starts to be worked on again maybe late this year? Detection to make pace cars more accurate for progammed it would be fun. Programmed laps on my small track with SSDC which checks onece each lapdoes not work, the varation in pacer speed lap to lap is too high. Pacers are not that consisten lap to lap and even race to race even with the throttle setting the same.

Also am I the only one? In SSDC (not sure about others) you set lap time and start throttle level. This means that you can set the throttle a bit low and let the pacer speed up each lap till it gets close to the target and set the target lap time higher. Just adds a bit more confusio/varaiety. A novel feature would be a small random variation (bigger than pace car lap to lap) in lap tmes for the cars, just to adds to the variety of traffic patterns. 3 intelegent pace cars on a 10m track to me would be close to perfect.

Just watched the video after starting an interest again in scalextric and wow that has just got mine and my eldest sons hearts racing. Amazing track Billy Cart. What are the dimensions of it please as those straights look awesome.

Hi Orc Slayer, terribly sorry I missed your question (wife lost her mother around this time so was probably distracted back then) the track table is basically 5 x 2 metres and track length is 32 metres.
