Nice painting scheme. I like those vents open in the rear...not sure how long would they last on my track but worth it to have them for some pics.

Thought I'd post up a couple I've just finished & hopefully stir up some more activity in this thread.

First off a simple restoration of an EBay bought, brush painted AMT Mustang, I intended a full repaint, chassis mods and motor transplant. but after stripping, the plastic was as glossy as new (except where bonnet scoop had been glued) so decided to go more the straight restoration route.

I couldn't be bothered to start another thread, so I'll revive this one for a while.
It's scratchbuilt season here at Merkit towers.
Besides building for the Bordeaux meeting in June (progress pictures later) I decided to build a few cars for racing at SSRC, most of my racers haven't been touched in 10 years and are beginning to struggle for performance.
First is the former "Ninco classic" class, which now allows cars to CSCRA rules.
I had started this 300 SL a while back, but reading the rules properly, I realised that a 50s car was at a great disadvantage compared to mid sixties stuff.

Modified Revell 300SL with a Monoposto chassis and anonymous 25K motor.

As I said, the rules are biased towards the later cars. Back to the drawing board, I shall instead press into use this 280SL probably with another monoposto.

Besides those 2, I am also working on a 1/24th "big Bird" for the forthcoming meeting at Rockingham.
Strangely enough, it's another Mercedes (plastic toy made in Hong Kong).

If that's a Pittman (dc65)? Those end frames are not like any stock motor I've ever seen Joel & a lot of material has been removed around the magnet, might need to check that there is enough meat there to stop magnet moving in the event of an impact or else glue it in.

Lee, you are right, the sides of that motor have been cut out (never noticed before).

For Bordeaux, I have chosen this Ford engined Matra 630 in 1/32nd.

Starting with a Gama body just like this one.

I‘m not convinced the MS630 ever raced with the US Ford V8 engine. At Le Mans in 1967 they used a 2-litre BRM V8 and by Le Mans 1968 they had their own 3-litre V12 (and the long-tail body like the GAMA car).

Before spending hours building the car, I did do a bit of research, in fact I have had a picture of the short tail car in my "to do" pile for years. Because the car was then converted to a different version, Matra decided to recreate the missing link (between BRM and Matra engines).

I thought I’d done pretty thorough research when I built my own 1968 MS630 from a GAMA, but I never came across any mention of the Ford-engined version until I saw your post.

I have a built in advantage on Matra, I Google in French, this is how I first came across the short tail version. But I am glad you posted because having looked at the pictures again, I have now realised that the shape of the back of the roof is different too (still working on that bit).

Rear fins yet to be sanded down to the final shape, so is the nose extension.

I am planning to use a Riggen chassis (this may change).

Yes of course.
I had to cut the chassis as it was too wide, still have to modify the back end to stop flexing.

The hunt for the "killer motor" has started in earnest, pics to follow.
