why would hornby want to buy fly.

all of the hornby purchases to date have been either strategic giving them control of their product in a certain market (buying out the distributor in the usa and spain) or added a new range of products (other scales of model trains).

no doubt they do have other targets but i'd of thought they are likely to be distributors in other countries or companies that make other types of model products such as model kits.

of course i could be wrong as i too heard of something happening in the world of slot cars but no more details than that.

Good advice - it's only after that initial mention that the wilder speculation is started, by others.
PdL has his head screwed on far better than most, though I wish we had more to go on - I'm really curious as to what will eventually pop up!

Seeing as we're on the carp rumour treadmill how about this one;

Bum Slot, who are a covert subsidiary of Chad Valley, have bought out all the "big six" and are going to level the quality across the board! Only Team Slot will remain as competitors!
