Last night we were doing some racing on my home track with a couple of SCX cars, an IMSA F40 (Alesi) and an IMSA Audi (Stuck). They are non magnet cars with the standard SCX motor, i.e. mild. We ended up almost setting the track record for non magnet cars on my track, 50ft sport with 10ft straight. The fastest non mag car I have is a Fly Saleen racing version, but the SCX cars ran within .1 seconds of it last night!? This was about half a second faster than the previous best for these cars. This is making me believe in the practice of de-tuning cars with NC-1 motors and the like. They are much easier to control and flirt with the edge, without stepping over.

Hi Pete.

I think you hit the nail right on the head there........The fastest motors are not always the best for home use.....Drivability is the key.

I've got a few Scaleauto powered cars and although they are great on a Club Circuit they are difficult to drive with any degree of control on a home circuit.

The NC1 is a great little motor and more than adequate for most home use.

I agree that handling should come before power, but surely the statement made concerning power is better for club tracks rather than home circuits does depend on what home layout you've got ??

I stand corrected Moman.....However, certainly all the home tracks I have driven on in the UK do not have straights longer than 10 feet and most don't even have this length, whereas Clubs tend to have longer faster circuits. Again a generalisation but pretty fair comment I belive.

The F40 is one of the best designed SCX cars. It was the king of the spanish races until mid-nineties, and still a good car.

The RX4 is too a good motor for home tracks, 18000 rpm and a very good brake are the perfect combination for small circuits.

NC-1 and Rx motors are fun, period. Large or small track they are a blast, IMHO.

Very interesting, I was also amazed how well matched they are considering the Audi is 4wd (like the 1:1). The F40 seems to have a slight edge on top speed, but the Audi has amazing brakes. I also have done virtually no tuning beyond trueing the tires , no weight or shimming anything.
