Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows of any swop meets in Cornwall? Or if not would anyone be interested in helping organize one?

Toyfairs are normally pretty lacking in slotcar stuff and yes , living at the far end of the country is going to make it tough attracting traders to your meet but it is a great opportunity to get back to what a swapmeet is all about . Get yourselves organised and sign up as many enthusiasts as you can muster . Turn up with your surplus gear , however small or large an amount and buy sell and swap with each other .
Maybe find a venue where you can have a track set up . Make it a social occasion and make some new friends along the way .
Good luck , I'll be watching to see how you get on but the 800 mile round trip means I'll only be there in spirit

there,s a few areas in newquay that do car boot sales. i,ll make some enquieries and see if i can come up with something for free. no pitch, entrance or parking fees, just a donation to a local charity. before i do it, how many vendors would be interested. by that i mean anyone with a few parts to trade, swop or sell. john

I think you may attract more traders and the public if the swapmeet was not as far west as Cornwall.
Probably Devon would be a better proposition, that way it would be ok travelling for those living further west and you would also attract a lot more people from the east.

I will pm you my email address in a min John. I am glad someone replied I was starting to think this idea was a dead duck lol. I thought it would be good to have it in Cornwall so that people in Cornwall would not have too far to travel, but I hear what you are saying about getting traders to come.
I am new on these forums and not a member of any club so if you guys can spread the word and we get enough interest I can't see any reason why we can't get something sorted.

I'm trying to plan a yorkshire one and it be great to swap notes to see if we're both having the same problems, but so far have found everyone very helpful even the traders I have emailed.

I am just starting planning at the moment, been busy at work. I am going to email some traders at the w/end but I think they are few and far between in our neck of the woods.
How have you gone about advertising your swop meet? have you had much interest?

Hi Scot,

I've had varying interest from people and traders, with some saying Doncaster is too far for them to travel. Just looking at venues and have had some great support from plenty of people on the forum who all live locally. The hardest part is trying to find a date that is suitable for everyone.

Thought it be a case of traders all saying yes, finding a venue, sticking to a date and everyone attends. But i'm finding out quickly that it isn't that easy! Good luck with your event and hope you can get it going.

I think Benson's hit the nail on the head - hire a hall and go for it.

Local papers and even radio stations are always starved of content (before, during and after your event) and if you put on racing in makes a nice picture for publicity purposes.

I'm a regular year-round Cornish visitor so PM me if you get close to a date and I'll see if I can help.

Best of luck with this if you appear to be getting the support you think you need.

But I would have said as a general rule the catchment is a 2 hour drive for most traders and a 1 hour drive for visitors.

IMHO Bristol and Southampton are the limit of viability in this part of England.

I've attended very nearly every Scalextric swapmeet in the UK for almost 25 years and I'm in Swindon. But something in Cornwall would be too far for me when the calendar is well stocked with events at the moment.

There is a new event running in Bristol on 10 March and this might be your best bet.
